Abstract

The aim of the research is to give the description of circumfix ( ka-an) in Minang Language subdistrict Sei Geringging Pariaman. This is descriptive qualitative research. The steps in collecting data are: reading and underlying sentences that contains affixes and classifying the class. The collected data are analyzed by using morphological theory by Bauer (1988). The result of the analysis reveals that circumfix (ka-an) in Minang Language subdistrict Sei Geringging Pariaman could be used with the base form of noun, verb and adjective. Some of them change the class of words (derrivational) and some of them keep the same class of word (inflectional).

Abstract

This study entitled An Analysis of Figurative Language Used in Chapter 1-30 of Psalm in King James Version Bible. The purpose of the study is to find out the kind of figurative language which is used by The Book of Psalm in King James Version Bible and also to find out the meaning of the figurative language which is applied in The Book of Psalm in King James Version Bible. The writer used theory Figurative Language from X.J Kennedy, Knickerbocker & Renninger, Keraf, Wren & Martin, Pradopo, Fatimah, and Gunter Radden. The method applied in this research is descriptive qualitative method. These are 5 kinds of figurative languages which are analyzed Simile, Idiom, Metaphor, Hyperbole and Paradox. Every data has been reviewed and the writer take conclusion that most of figurative language that is used in this book is Metaphor. There are 12 cases of metaphor that can be found. Then Simile with 7 cases, Idiom with 7 cases, Hyperbole with 3 cases, and last is Paradox with 2 cases from 30 chapters the book of psalm. The most frequently word used is metaphor because there are so many words that have the similarities between the two things. This research highly expected to give information and knowledge to the reader or the next researcher to be able know about types figurative languages, meaning of figurative language, and to identify figurative language easier.

Abstract

Abstract This thesis analyzes Extravert personality types in the novel ‘The Bookish Life Of Nina Hill’. The goals of this research is to find out what type of extravert personality that can be seen in the novel ‘The Bookish Life Of Nina Hill’ which is related to the personality approach using Carl Jung's personality theory. This research focuses on Nina Hill's personality. The reason is because Nina Hill's personality is a nerd girl who wants to change her life to become more open to the world. The method that is used for this thesis is a qualitative method by collecting data through library books and online data. The results show that extravert personality types found in the novel are divided into four types namely Thinking, Feeling, Sensing, and Intuiting. The first is Extravert Thinking. It is a personality that She thinks logically so that She is understanding and explaining things with logical rules. Second is Extravert Feeling. It is a personality that shows She responds to something emotionally. She is rejecting opinions that do not suit her emotionally. Third is Extravert Sensing. It is a personality who seeks pleasure by enjoying her activities in her weekly activities. Furthermore, Extravert Intuiting. It is a personality that She has creativity and takes advantage of the opportunity by making new ideas and taking advantage of opportunities to increase her knowledge.

Abstract

The title of this study is aimed to explore the kind of signs that represented including icons, indexes, and symbols found in the film. This research also analyzed the relationship of signs in the ‘IT’ film with representament, object, and interpretant. This research is used descriptive qualitative method. The data for this study were collected from the ‘IT’ film used note taking as its her main research instrument. The writers purposively selected a number of signs including seven icons, fifteen indexes, and five symbols. The results of the analysis revealed that icons, indexes, and symbols could indeed be interpreted using Peirce’s semiotic theory, especially the relationship between their representament, object, and interpretant. The blood on water and missing girls shoes, for example, the icon of the blood and murdered mystery; dark basement is an index of the appearance of blazing eye; and the water culvert are a symbol of the scary and mysterious place.
