Abstract

People as social beings (homo socialist) need to build up a good relationship to others. Broadly, pragmatics concentrates on the meaning of language usage in communication based on the context.The objectives of the study are to expressive speech acts found on the main character in Venom: Let There Be Carnage movie. The language used in Venom:Let There Be Carnage movie is a speech act that people usually use to communicate in modern life. People in their everyday communication are figuring out the performance of speech act.The method used by the writer was descriptive qualitative.The expressive speech acts found on the main character Venom: Let There Be Carnage movie are greeting and apologizing. Abstract

Reading is one of the most important English skills to explore information widely, increase knowledge and improve language skills. The effectiveness of imperative sentences in English recipe books has a good influence on students, to improve their reading skills on procedure texts. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of imperative sentences on students before and after treatment using procedure texts in English recipe books to find out substantial differences between the two. Researchers conducted quantitative research, and carried out in a one group pre-experimental style or can only be called using one class. The research sample was 26 ninth grade students of SMP Agus Salim Semarang. The research instrument is a test. There are two types of tests given, namely pre-test and post-test. After collecting the data, there was a significant difference between the effectiveness of imperative sentences on students before and after being given treatment using procedure text in English recipe books. The pre-test average score was 45.77 including the failed category and the post-test average score was 84.04 very good. The t-test result is 43 and the t-table value (5%; df=26) is 2.06. Thus, the t value is higher than the critical table value (43 > 2.06). To see whether there was a significant difference between the teaching methods using English recipe books before and after, the researcher conducted a t-test. The t-test value is determined through calculations using the t-test formula. The result is 43. Meanwhile, 2.06 is the critical number in the t table for the 5 percent alpha level and df = 25. 43 is the t value obtained. As a result, the value of t (43 > 2.06) is higher than the table's critical threshold. That is the success of students in the effectiveness of command sentences to improve reading of procedure texts. Therefore, Ha was approved.

Abstract

This research used YouTube as a medium that has benefits, and the researcher used this media to research. The purpose of this research was to influence of using YouTube videos in learning procedure text. The objectives of this study are (1) to explain the students' perception of using YouTube videos in learning procedure text, (2) To explain the benefits of using YouTube videos in learning procedure text, (3) To explain the influences of using YouTube videos in learning procedure text. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive research method. The subjects were 32 students, the data by using the questionnaire and interview. The results obtained show that the score questionnaire strongly agree after being taught by YouTube was higher and from the interview data, they answered that the procedure text on YouTube was entertaining and easy to understand. it can be considered that the application YouTube media is better for students.

Abstract

This research is based an a study which attempts to examine the use of the mind mapping method in improving vocabulary for 7th grade students of SMP N 32 Semarang. The purpose of this research was to find out the mind mapping method in improving students vocabulary. The objectives of this study are (1) To find out the students’ vocabulary achievement before using the interactive mind mapping method, (2) To find out the students’ vocabulary achievement after using the interactive mind mapping method, (3) To find out whether there is an improve student’s English vocabulary through interactive mind mapping method achievement significantly. (4) To find out the students’ perception of the use mind mapping to improve their vocabulary. Pre-experimental research was used in this study method. In this study, the researcher collects the data by using the tests and questionnaire. The researcher uses the statistical calculation with SPSS in data analyzed. The sample of this research is one class from 7th. The class has 31 students. As a results , it can be witnessed from the mean of pre-test and post-test. In pre-test result is 81,4. After being given treatment,the post-result is 86,9. Moreover, the hypothesis result showed that Ha is accepted. Because, T-count was higher than T-table (2.846 > 1.710), it indicates that there was a significantly improving vocabulary using mind mapping method.
