Abstract

Abstrak The purpose of this study is to recognize the analysis of the needs of English for Economics subject at Ekonomi Syariah department. It focuses on analyzing the targets and learning requirement. All of the Ekonomy Syariah students of STES Manna Wa Salwa Tanah Datar Sumatera Barat became the subjects of this research. This study was conducted under qualitative method. The instruments for the study were questionnaire and interview. The data showed that the objective of English for Economics subject at Economi Syariah department was being able to communicate in English actively oral or written that can be implemented for the future field of work. The analysis of learning needs told the result that the learners required the speaking skills properly in order to get them to be able to involve into the real practice of job in the future. The components of good speaking skills that were related to the needs for the future job were very crucial to be accomplished, as a result learners could comuunicate in English fluently and properly. Consequently, the results of the study are expected to be consideration for planning the lesson plan and learning materials. Keywords : Analysis, Learning needs, English for Economics

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the current application of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and its suitability for the students in the Syaria Banking Department at STES Manna Wa Salwa, Tanah Datar. The study employed the total sampling technique as there were 35 students in the Syaria Banking Department. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires and were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The findings indicated that the latest implementation of ESP in this department was appropriate, although there were some areas that needed improvement, particularly in terms of learning materials and time allocation. Additionally, the English course met the needs of the students in the Syaria Banking Department, particularly in terms of improving their vocabulary and speaking skills. The research suggested that lecturers should attend ESP seminars or training programs to enhance their knowledge and skills in providing appropriate teaching and learning materials for students in the Syaria Banking Department. Furthermore, the time allocated for ESP classes should be carefully considered.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kebutuhan mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris pada jurusan Ekonomi Syariah. Hal ini fokus dalam menganalisis persyaratan target dan pembelajaran. Seluruh peserta didik pada jurusan Ekonomi Syariah STES Manna Wa Salwa dipilih sebagai sample dari penelitian ini. Jenis penelitian kualitatif adalah jenis dari penelitian ini. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah kusioner dan wawancara. Dari data yang diperoleh ditemukan bahwa tujuan akhir dari mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris pada jurusan Ekonomi Syariah adalah agar peserta didik mampu berkomunikasi dengan Bahasa Inggris secara aktif baik lisan maupun tulisan yang dapat di terapkan di dunia kerja. Dari analisis kebutuhan belajar didapatkan hasil bahwa peserta didik membutuhkan keahlian berbicara yang baik agar mereka dapat masuk ke dalam persaingan dunia kerja di masa yang akan datang. Komponen-komponen keahlian berbicara yang terkait dengan kebutuhan di dunia kerja nantinya sangat penting untuk dicapai, sehingga peserta didik dapat berkomunikasi dengan Bahasa Inggris dengan lancar dan penggunaan bahasa yang tepat. Sehingga hasil dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi pertimbangan bagi para pendidik dan pihak terkait dalam menyusun silabus, materi dan bahan ajar.
