Abstract

Plastic waste is a problem that must be handled properly, because plastic waste takes a long time to decompose. The high amount of plastic waste is caused by people's dependence on plastic which is also getting bigger. One of the efforts that can be made to recycle and reduce the amount of waste in the environment is making ecobrick. Making ecobrick keeps waste in bottles so that people don't have to burn, hoard or litter. PkM activities carried out by providing socialization and education on plastic waste management. The aim of this PkM is to provide knowledge and insight to the community in reusing plastic waste through ecobrick. The results of the education that has been carried out can increase the knowledge and awareness of the community regarding the management of plastic waste into ecobrick as goods that have high use value such as being used for making walls on a larger scale and has the potential to increase the economic value of waste.

Abstract

Anorganic waste is a type of waste that is very difficult to decompose and even takes a very long time, up to hundreds of years to fully decompose, especially cans and plastic which are difficult to biodegrade by nature. The purpose of this PkM activity is to overcome the problem of anorganic waste by reusing it. PkM activities are carried out by providing socialization to the community to increase knowledge in utilizing anorganic waste in the surrounding environment. The counseling material is an explanation of the recycling of anorganic waste into useful creative products, especially plastic and can bottles. The results of the socialization that has been carried out have increased public awareness of the use of anorganic waste which can be made into attractive and marketable products.

Abstract

Most waste generation is found in the surrounding environment,  from household waste and the increasing waste needs to be managed starting from the household level. Housewives' behavior in 3R-based waste management (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) is influenced by several factors such as knowledge, attitudes and education. The aim of this research is to determine the factors related to housewives' behavior in 3R-based waste management. This type of research is analytical observational research with a cross sectional design. The population of this research is all housewives in Pondok Kemuning Village, totaling 450 housewives. The sample for this research consisted of 52 respondents. Data analysis used the chi-square test. The research results show that the factors related to 3R-based waste management behavior using bivariate analysis are knowledge (p-value 0.004), attitude (p-value 0.03), and education (p-value 0.03). Therefore, education and training activities related to waste management are carried out for the community, especially using the 3R concept method (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) which is easy to apply on a household scale so that it can minimize waste generation and increase skills and knowledge in the community..

Abstract

The vector of dengue fever is the Aedes aegypti mosquito. In 2022, there will be 79 cases of dengue fever in Langsa City. Using chemical insecticides on mosquito larvae can create resistance for the larvae. Therefore, you can use the natural insecticide green betel leaves which contain essential oils, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins which are toxic and can affect the digestive system and nervous system of Aedes aegypti larvae. The aim of the research was to determine the effectiveness of green betel leaf extract (Piper betle L) as a natural insecticide. The research method is experimental. The study used 3 concentrations, namely 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% and there were positive control (abate) and negative control, each treatment had 3 repetitions. Each test contained 20 Aedes aegypti larvae and was observed every 4 hours for up to 24 hours. The results showed that green betel leaf extract can kill Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae with a percentage of 95% to 100%. Therefore, green betel leaf extract is effective as a natural insecticide on Aedes aegypti larvae.
