Abstract

The concentrations and spatial distribution of thirteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from٦ soil have been investigated in four regions locate in Al-Diwaniya city, Iraq. Sechelt extractions is used to extract PAHs compounds from all samples, gas chromatography was used to determine the PAHs concentration in all samples. The total concentrations of thirteen PAHs were ranged from 4.46ng.g-1 in site one to 17.24 ng.g-1 in site three of dry weight. The PAHs compounds those consist of four to six fused aromatic rings represent the majority among other PAHs in soil samples. Keywords: Al-Diwaniyah pollution, Contamination with PAHs, Extraction of PAHs from soil, Soil pollution, PAHs in Iraqi soil.

Abstract

Disposable cartridges have been created using low-cost activated carbon produced from waste as solid support via using a chemical activation method, and modified with the new tridentate [N.N.O] donor azo ligand to yield a solid-phase sorbent, the thiazole azo 2-[2ــ -( 5-nitro thiazolyl) azo]-4-methyl-5-nitro phenol ( 5-NTAMNP) derived from 2-amino-5-nitrothiazole and 3-methyl-4-nitrophenol by the diazotization operation and the adizonium chloride salt solution of 2-amino-5-nitrothiazole reacting with 3-methyl-4-nitrophenol as a coupling compound in alkaline alcoholic solution. The structure of ligand was identified and confirmed via resorting to various spectroscopic techniques which included, Proton nuclear magnetic resonance, Mass spectrum, UV–visible, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), X-Rays diffraction (XRD), the surface nature and morphology and size average and elemental composition of individual ligand particles were examined using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) coupled with an energy dispersive X-ray system (EDX), novel (5-NTAMNP)-modified activated carbon solid-phase sorbent were synthesized and characterized by chemical analysis by using, FT-IR, and XRD techniques and chelating sorbent were used as an adsorbent for the removal and for the determination of a hazardous heavy metallic ions Mn(II), Fe(III), Pb(II), Cu(II), in water under the optimum pH value for complexation with this azo ligand. The new (5-NTAMNP)-modified activated carbon showed highly effective solid phase extraction properties for these metallic ions. Keywords: Activated carbon, NNO donor azo ligand, Solid-phase extraction, Disposable cartridges, SPE.

Abstract

A new chelating imidazolylazo groups were synthesis. New ligand of azo dye 2-[2ــ- (benzimidazolyl) azo]-5 -dimethyl amino benzoicacid (BIABA) have been synthesized by diazotization in alkaline alcoholic solution. Complexes of this ligand were prepared with a series of metallic ions Cu (II), Co (III), Ni (II). These complexes were examined using UV-Vis spectroscopy, the surface nature, morphology and elemental composition of individual novel (BIABA) ligand particles were characterized using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM) coupled with an Energy Dispersive X-ray system (EDX). The structures of the synthesized dyes were determined by analysis of their Mass spectrum, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), 1H NMR. The physical properties of ligand have been studied via check its melting point. Keywords: Azo dye; Benzimidazol; Benzoic acid; 1H NMR; FESEM; X-ray system.

Abstract

Human milk is an important bio indicator for the exposure with some pollutants like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Breast milk samples from 68 women were live in Al-Diwaniyah city were collected in this study. Thirteen of poly cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were investigated in all samples using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy. The samples were divided into three groups according to the age range (less than 20 years, 20-30 years and 31-40 years). Eight samples were the control for this study from the rural mothers. The mothers were all them non-smokers. The samples were collected during 2017 from different regions located in Al-Diwaniyah City. Keywords: Breast milk, Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, Pollution in Al-Diwaniyah City, Gas Chromatography, Exposure to pollutants.
