Abstract

In recent years, the utilization of renewable energy sources in supplying electricity energy has resulted in more reliable and efficient operation with better power quality and flexibility especially distribution network. However, from the operation and management points of view, the high utilization of the distributed generation can cause unexpected challenges which a part of them is addressed by microgrids (MGs) problem. In this paper, for analysis some of unexpected challenges such as uncertainty in wind and sun power, the optimal operation of grid-connected MG during a specific day and with considering a proper mathematical model for simplifying the optimization program, is investigated. The considered MG consisted of wind turbines, Photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery energy storage, diesel generator and local loads. The wind speed and sun irradiation data are obtained for a rural village which is located in 470.5'N and 350.59'E in Kurdistan province in Iran. By applying the demand response (DR) strategy to the optimal operation program, the results are compared with typical operation condition (non-DR) of the MG. In addition, the impacts of uncertainties such as wind speed and sun irradiations variations on the optimal operation of the MG are investigated. The optimal sizes of the MG components are obtained with HOMER software. Keywords: Component; Optimal operation; Micro grid; Renewable energy, Demand response; Uncertainty.

Abstract

In this paper, application of MAS for the frequency & Voltage control of islanded Micro grid by Load shedding method is presented. Frequency & Voltage stability of micro grids under islanded operation attracts particular attention recently. The islanded micro grid makes its frequence & Voltage control more difficult than the conventional grids. On This strategy, agents sent data and furthermore each component has its own to center operating decisions (MGCC). The simulation results show the promising performance of the proposed structure of the controller based on multi agent systems. Keywords: Control and Management, Distribution System.

Abstract

Increasing application of capacitor banks on distribution networks is the direct impact of development of technology and the energy disasters that the world is encountering. Line loss reduction is one of the major benefits of capacitor, amongst many others, when incorporated in the power distribution system. The quantum of the line loss reduction should be exactly known to assess the effectiveness of the distributed generation. In this paper, a new method is proposed to find the optimal and simultaneous place and capacity of these resources to reduce losses, improve voltage profile too the total loss of a practical distribution system is calculated with and without capacitor placement and an index, quantifying the total line loss reduction is proposed. This results in saving substantial amount of energy. To reduce our objective function, we find optimized type of conductor by taking use of Imperialism Competitive Algorithm (ICA) method and comparison with PSO method. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm, computer simulations are carried out on actual power network of Kerman Province, Iran and the simulation results are presented and discussed.Keyword: Distribution systems, Loss reduction index, Capacitor placement, Imperialist Competitive Algorithm

Abstract

The availability of an adequate amount of electricity and its utilization is essential for the growth and development of the country. Development of distribution systems result in higher system losses and poor voltage regulation. Consequently, an efficient and effective distribution system has become more urgent and important. In medium voltage electrical distribution networks, reformed the loss reduction is very important and certainly in line with this, system engineering issue and use of proper equipment, a good work has been done. Hence proper selection of conductors in the distribution system is important as it determines the current density and the resistance of the line. In this paper examines the use of different evolutionary algorithm, imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) to optimal branch optimization Reconstruction of aging of overhead conductors in t radial distribution systems with objective function to reduce the sum of capital cost and power loss cost and voltage deviation. This algorithm is easy to programming and needs no approximation of actual condition. The proposed method can be applied for optimal planning of radial electric distribution systems. Effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by case study in a radial network.Keyword: Optimization, Reconstruction, aging of overhead conductors, Imperialism Competitive Algorithm (ICA), Radial Distribution Networks, back/forward sweep, Voltage profile, Loss Reduction.

Abstract

In this paper, a novel approach is proposed by using optimal state feedback, based on the reduced – order observer structure. The Linear Observer Method was adopted in this paper to study the SSR damping characteristics with TCSC. The study system was modified from the IEEE Second benchmark model by changing a part of the fixed series capacitor to TCSC. It is tried to stable torsional modes of turbine – generator units and improve their damping by using optimal linear control, with an practical viewpoint. The proposed method is applied to the IEEE Second Benchmark system for SSR studies and the results are verified based on comparison with those obtained from digital computer simulation by MATLAB.Keywords: optimal state feedback, TCSC, SSR, MATLAB software.
