Abstract

The most common cause of morbidity and mortality is cardiac disease, even minor alterations in thyroid hormone levels adversely effects on the cardiovascular system. In acute cardiac problems hypothyroidism occurs and it is associated with the increase of cardiac mortality. The purpose for this study is to investigate the alterations in hormone concentrations TSH , T3 , T4 , and testosterone  in patients suffering from myocardial infarction  in Baghdad city According to statistical analysis  revealed that the level of T3 , T4 and testosterone  were decreased in comparison with healthy control group and the decreasing value of these hormones were continuing to occur especially in 7 and 14 days after myocardial infarction occurs .While the levels of TSH illustrated increment in various periods of time used in this study after admission of myocardial infarction. Keywords: Myocardial infarction, TSH, T3, T4, Testosterone.

Abstract

Acute myocardial infarction is a common cardiac emergency, with the potential for substantial morbidity and mortality. Myocardial infarction occurs when myocardial ischemia, a diminished blood supply to the heart, exceeds a critical threshold and overwhelms myocardial cellular repair mechanisms designed to maintain normal operating function and homeostasis. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the alterations in hormone concentrations TSH, T3, T4, and testosterone in experimental rats has been induced for myocardial infarction. According to statistical analysis revealed that the levels of T3, T4 and testosterone were decreased in comparison with healthy control group and the decreasing value of these hormones were continuing to occur especially in 7 and 14 days after myocardial infarction occurs .While the levels of TSH illustrated increment in various periods of time used in this study after admission of myocardial infarction, in addition to histological changes that had occurred in thyroid and testes sections. Thyroid sections showed follicles empty from colloid and degenerative changes in thyroid follicular cells in long period of time after acute myocardial infarction, while testes showed immaturity of spermatogonial cells with deformed sperms inside the lumen. Keywords: Myocardial infarction, TSH, T3, T4, Testosterone.

Abstract

Thyme has been used for thousands of years for a myriad of indications. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of thyme leave extracts on some rat organs and hormones such as TSH, T3, T4 and Testosterone after serial period times of injection with different concentrations. 75 Spargue-Dawley albino adult male rats were randomly distributed into five groups of control and treated groups. Each group had 15 rats, group1 for the negative control, group 2 for the positive control, group 3, 4, and 5 were treated with thyme in the concentration of (500, 750and1000) mg/kg of body weight by injection for 10,20, and 30 days subsequently. According to statistical analysis revealed that the level of T3, T4 and testosterone were decreased in treated groups in comparison with control groups and the decreasing value of these hormones were continuing to occur in high concentrations with long period of time injecting with thyme leave extract, While the level of TSH illustrated increment in high concentrations and long periods of time exposing to thyme leaves extract. Keywords: TSH, T3, T4 ,Testosterone, Thymus vulgaris.
