Abstract

Embankment on soft clay may be affect settlement at subgrade, causing lateral deformation and vertical deformation around embankment. Therefore, reinforcement is needed to overcome the effects caused of the embankment. This research was conducted to find out the influence of sheet pile wall of embankment using PLAXIS 2D program based the finite element method. The analysis was done by varying of two condition, they are installation of sheet pile wall under the embankment and the sheet pile wall outside embankment. Sheet pile wall installation is carried out before embankment construction and length of sheet pile wall in this model is 15 m. The soil layers beneath the embankment consist of 10 m layer of soft clay layer and 5 m of sand layer. The height of embankment in this analysis is 8 m, where the constructing of the embankment was done in stages. The distance of sheet pile wall position under embankment from toe of embankment are -9 m, -6 m, -3 m, 0 m, 3 m dan 6 m. The results of analysis show the effective position for displacement are toe of embankment. The Installation of sheet pile walls below the embankment will reducing deformation up to 78% and the safety factor will increase up to 10%.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTanah lempung lunak memiliki sifat gaya geser tanah yang kecil, kompresibilitas yang sangat besar, koefisien permeabilitas yang kecil dan mempunyai daya dukung rendah. Agar tanah lempung lunak dapat digunakan sebagai tanah dasar dari timbunan, maka perbaikan tanah diperlukan. Salah satu perbaikan tanah untuk tanah lempung lunak yaitu stone column. Stone column merupakan kolom-kolom vertikal dari material kerikil. Analisis yang dilakukan menggunakan program PLAXIS 2D AE dengan model Axisymmetric. Analisis yang dilakukan dengan memvariasikan jarak antar stone column dan diameter stone column. Kedua variasi ini menggunakan pengaruh smear zone dan tanpa smear zone. Variasi jarak antar stone column yang digunakan yaitu 2 m, 3 m dan 4 m dan variasi diameter stone column menggunakan diameter 40 cm, 70 cm dan 100 cm. Hasil analisis menunjukan adanya pengurangan penurunan hingga 80% dan pengurangan waktu hingga 2367 hari. Kata Kata Kunci : Tanah Lempung Lunak, Stone Column, Smear Zone, Axisymmetric, penurunan, PLAXIS 2D AE ABSTRACT Soft clay is characterized by low shear strength, a high compressibility, a low coeffiecient of permeability and a low bearing capacity. Soft soil as subgrade of embankment must be improved using soil improvement. One of soil mprovement methods for soft clay soil is stone column. Stone column is a vertical column with gravel material. The Analysis of stone column for soil improvement used PLAXIS 2D AE and Axisymmetric model. The analysis was did by two variation, The variation of spacing between stone column and diameter stone column used in this analysis. Effect smear zone and without smear zone are considered. The Variation spacing of stone column that have been used for analysis are 2 m, 3 m and 4 m and the variation of diameter for stone column are 40 cm, 70 cm and 100 cm. The result show the settlement reduced until 80% and time of consolidation until 2367 days using stone column.Key Words : Soft clay, Stone column, smear zone, Axisymmetric, settlement, PLAXIS 2D AE.
