Abstract

Computational thinking is an essential problem-solving skill that involves logical, systematic, and critical thinking processes. The ethnomathematics approach within Realistic Mathematics Education (Ethno-RME) connects mathematical concepts with cultural contexts that are closely related to students’ daily lives. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Ethno-RME approach on students’ computational thinking skills in mathematics learning. The study employed an experimental method using Simple Random Sampling. The population consisted of all eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kampar in the 2023/2024 academic year, with class VIII B, consisting of 29 students, selected as the experimental group and class VIII E, consisting of 27 students, as the control group. Data were collected through observation sheets and computational thinking skills tests, then analyzed using an Independent Samples T-Test with the assistance of SPSS 16. The results showed a difference in computational thinking skills between the two groups. The significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 indicated that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Therefore, the Ethno-RME approach had an effect on students’ computational thinking skills.
