Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia is a country whose population consists of various ethnic groups, cultures and religions. The existence of religions on the island of Bali which are very diverse have existed since the royal era until now the harmony is still maintained. Christianity as one of the recognized religions in Indonesia spreads rapidly in Bali. One of the areas in Bali where the population embraces Christianity almost equals the population who are Hindus is Eka Sari Village, which is located in Melaya District, Jembrana Regency.Based on the background above, the problems discussed in this study are as follows: 1) What are the causes of the religious conversion in Eka Sari Village, Melaya District, Jembrana Regency? 2) What is the legal impact caused by religious conversion according to customary law? 3) What is the role and business of traditional leaders regarding the conversion of religion in Eka Sari Village, Melaya District, Jembrana Regency?This research aims to add to the repertoire of knowledge, especially in terms of religious transition. The theory used to analyze the problems put forward is Structural Functional Theory. In collecting data used methods of observation, interviews, and literature study. With descriptive data analysis.The results of this study, among other things, can be described as follows: 1) The causes of religious conversion in Eka Sari Village, Melaya District, Jembrana Regency include: (a) Weak understanding of Hinduism, (b) Economic reasons, (c) The influence of marriage, ( d) Family influence. 2) The legal impact caused by the conversion of religion according to Hindu law. Sanctions or legal impacts imposed on Ekasari Traditional Village residents/krama who changed religions can be divided into three, namely: the legal impact on customary village krama who changed religions, the legal impact on the assets of the Traditional Village and the legal impact on the family. 3) The participation of traditional leaders in the conversion of religions in Eka Sari Village, Melaya District, Jembrana Regency: Traditional chiefs with their traditional prajuru have the role of regulating the relationship between one krama and another (pawongan area), between krama and their environment (the area of Pahyangan), and between krama and God (parhyangan field).From the description above, it can be concluded that: the impact of customary law arising from religious conversions in the social life of the Hindu community in the Ekasari Traditional Village is that those who convert from Hinduism to Christianity will be subject to sanctions in accordance with the awig-awig of the Ekasari traditional village.
