Abstract

Advertisement is one of functional texts which functions to commerce the audience about a product the company sells. A text in the advertisement is considered has to contribute people’s intention. This paper conducts a critical analysis on the fame of a product which becomes remarkable since it raises until now, Oreo. Fairclough’s three dimensional frameworks, Gee’s seven building tasks, and Halliday’s functional grammar are employed to do the research. Therefore, this paper discusses the linguistic features, advertisement invention, semiotic aspects and social contexts. However, the result of the research shows that, the language used in Oreo Wonderfilled advertisement has relation to power. Thus, the advertisement of Oreo does not only attract consumer but also shape the constumers’ mind through the language used both its’ audio or visual. The representation of symbolic power to capture the hearts and minds of consumers is by means of visual, audio, and verbal signs, which are analyzed using semiotics feature.

Abstract

The term "canon" is a term in question over time because it is considered incapable of answering acertainty about the criteria used in classifying literary works. The question arose from reasons such theneglect of some literary works which containing unacceptable topics politically or have no commercialvalues in the time of its publication. Furthermore, there is a work of literature that is not recognizedbecause the author is not derived from the origin state or origin culture raised in his work. Seeing this,this research has sought to reveal the acceptable criteria in classifying literary works into a canon. Theconcept of canon used are based on Smyth, Kolbas, Lise, and Benton. Their thoughts are different butcomplete each other. The objects of this research are notable literary works from three different authorsand countries. They are Arundhati Roy, Pramoedya A. Toer, and George Orwell. Each them containdifferent issues which represented the most common issues appear in Asian countries. Throughout thethree works, the face of Asian is seen and the acceptable criteria are found. There are four criteriasuggested in this research.They are: first, the work may contain cultural and moral values of Asian ;second, the work may inform ideologies and social of the Asian; Third, it may inform the historicalvalue of Asian countries; and the last, it is already criticized and reviewed by others, in this case,researcher or readers.

Abstract

The diversity of ethnicities and cultures characterizes the Indonesian nation as a multicultural nation. The peculiarities of each of these varieties can be found in the forms of social practice of social life. The values ​​that are upheld in every social practice of social life also underlie the development direction of national development sectors. It is stated in the National Education System Law of 2003 to organize National Education which is rooted in the religious values ​​and national culture of Indonesia, especially in the field of education. The mandate realization of this law is stated that the content of the curriculum contains local potentials. These two mandates underlie curriculum principles and color educational practices to reflect the diversity existed in Indonesia. This research is entitled An Application of Cultural Responsive Teaching (Crt) Approach To Drama Teaching: A Study Amidst the New Normal Conditions of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The approach was introduced by Geneva Gay (2011: 188-214) as an approach that emphasizes the importance of learning based on students’ cultural backgrounds. Multicultural education is a concept that underlies this approach (Baker, 1996: 374). The research framework is the application of CRT approach to learning activities in Drama Course. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of this study resulted in several things discussed from the aspects of preparation, personal character, presentation, interaction between teachers and students and local story script products. It is hoped that this research will produce a learning framework that integrates elements of local culture for teaching drama.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the realization of cohesion as  text texture resource on undergraduate students’ academic writing. The researchers were aware that students’ writing might be affected by their understanding of what had been learned before. To write an academic writing was not easy for them since they should integrate knowledge either the content being writing or grammar including text texture. Texture of text were realized in cohesion devices namely reference, conjunction, ellipsis and lexical organization. In order to do this study, the researchers applied qualitative method, the population was  academic writings texts that were written by students in 2021. Purposive random sampling strategy were applied to get the 12 samples of theses writing specified only texts related to teaching and learning English. Data gained were identified and classified based on the view of resources of cohesion realization and then be analyzed and interpreted to get its result about the text texture. Based on the analysis it was found out that the realization of cohesion as resources of text texture were in reference that covered to personal, demonstrative and comparative references; conjunctions, ellipsis, substitution and lexical organization It was found out that cohesion resources were realized in reference, conjunction and repetition were mostly used. This fact might because of text types and students’ limitation of using varieties realization of substitution, ellipsis and other lexical cohesion. It is hoped that the result of this study can give contribution to the English lecturers, especially to the lecturers of writing and  grammar.

Abstract

This article is aimed to describe textual meaning realization in system and structure of spoken texts delivered by Nadim Makarim during covid-2019. Oral data were obtained through observation taken from you tube. There were five texts to be observed and analysed. All data were analysed using descriptive qualitative method and results were presented using formal and informal method. The results showed that text theme realizing textual theme, system and structure. The total number of theme was 382 consisting of 127 topical theme, 217 textual, and 38 interpersonal theme. The more use of textual theme was caused by tenor’s aim to give deeply explanation of the message stated in order to be paid attention and considered by listeners.. The less use of interpersonal theme was caused by tenors’ position as if speaker and listeners are closed even though via online. This text also used marked and unmarked themes. Marked theme that were used in texts were complement and adverbial. The use of marked theme was aimed to specify an object or adverbial as important thing. Text thematic structure of text consists of four variations
