<![CDATA[AbstrakFakta di lapangan menunjukkan bahwa pada saat ini pelajar maupun mahasiswa mempraktikkan demokrasi masih banyak yang merusak berbagai fasilitas umum. Ini membuktikan masih banyak masyarakat terutama pada kalangan pelajar tingkat SMA yang belum mengerti benar mengenai demokrasi. Oleh karena itu pada penelitian ini, akan diungkap bagaimana pemahaman siswa tentang demokrasi. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan berupa angket. Analisis data dilakukan dengan statistik angka dan kemudian dideskripisikan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman siswa SMA swasta dan Madrasah Aliyah Negeri kota Surabaya tentang demokrasi sangat rendah (6,5%). Atau bisa dikatakan pemahaman siswa tentang demokrasi sebatas definisi, asal usul kata, dan arti kata sampai pada pemilu. Masih banyak siswa yang tidak tahu lebih lanjut dan mendalam tentang demokrasi seperti adanya supremasi hokum.Kata Kunci: Pemahaman Demokrasi,AbstractThe facts in the field showed that at the moment the student or student implementing democracy still many damaging public facilities. This proves there are still many people especially at the high school level students who don’t understand righ about democracy. Therefore this study will describe what students’ understanding of democracy. This is is a quantitative descriptive research. Data collection techniques that are used in the form of questionnaires. Data analysis was done with numbers and statistics and then descriptive.The result showed that the high school studens understanding of private and madrasah aliyah Surabaya country about democracy can be said that the understanding of students of high school and madrasah aliyah Surabaya country about democracy is very low. The understanding of students of private and religius schools overseas about democracy only 6,5%. Or it could be said that the student understood the extent of democracy in the definition, the origin of the word, and the meaning of the word up on elections.
