Abstract

This study examines the degree of alignment between classroom instruction and national curriculum standards. This alignment may vary as a function of teacher characteristics. Using self-reports from teachers about their experiences teaching the national curriculum standards, the study explores the extent to which classroom instruction aligns with Indonesian national standards in the following nationally-assessed subjects: Indonesian, English, science, and mathematics. A mixed multilevel regression analyses was used to examine the relationships between alignments and teacher characteristics. The study involved 501 junior secondary school teachers from three western provinces in Indonesia (Lampung, Jakarta, and East Java). The findings showed that the majority of teachers taught 100% of the topics outlined in the national curriculum standards. However, a small number of teachers had taught less than 100% of the required topics. In fact, some of them had only taught less than 70%. As the Indonesian educational system used standards-based national exams, skipping topics in classroom instruction may significantly affect student achievement because test items are developed based on the curriculum standards. In terms of the relationships of alignments with teacher characteristics such as gender, working status, college major, level of education, years of teaching experience and professional development, the findings suggested that these relationships varied. Theoretically, this research provides two contributions: (1) lacking research in the area of curriculum standards and classroom instruction as mediator of student competencies, the findings of this study make an important contribution to the current research of the standards-based education system; (2) predicting alignments as a function of teacher characteristics in this study contributes to the theoretical discussion of teacher characteristics and their possible effects on classroom instruction.

Abstract

This study is aimed to provide better policy recommendations related to the government efforts in encouraging high schools graduations with high academic achievement to enroll teacher training institutes. Study used data from the impact evaluation of the teachers living standards improvement on the quality of input. The overview were aimed to measure the extent of which high school graduaters enrolled to teachers’ colleges. Survei approach was implemented to collect data from the two sources, Student Administration Bureau and students of 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th by 2011. Findings showed that there were increasing sharfly numbers of enrollements to teachers’ colleges during 2008-2011, especially for primary school teachers program. However, in term of quality, there were only slightly increased on quality of teachers’ candidate shown by the slight increase of high schools’ students’ rank of those who were in the 7th semester compared to 1st semester. Policy options will be: only high quality teacher training insitute are eligible to open the program; high knowledgeable and skills on curriculum content and pedagogic; student loan scheme; hiring teachrs of both local and outside with centralized teacher management; teachers’ contract for the remote, border, and outer areas. ABSTRAK Penelitian bertujuan merumuskan saran kebijakan dalam upaya peningkatan peminat profesi guru berkualitas pada Lembaga Penghasil Tenaga Kependidikan. Penelitian difokuskan pada kuantitas dan kualitas lulusan sekolah lanjutan tingkat atas yang mendaftar pada beberapa prodi pendidikan. Melalui survei, informasi dikumpulkan dari dua sumber data, yaitu Badan Administrasi Kemahasiswaan dan mahasiswa prodi kependidikan dan non-prodi kependidikan, khususnya semester 1, 3, 5, dan 7 pada tahun 2011. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan kuantitas dan kualitas peminat profesi guru khususnya mahasiswa kependidikan. Secara kuantitas, terjadi peningkatan tajam jumlah pendaftar kependidikan terutama prodi Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar. Pada sisi kualitas, terdapat peningkatan lebih baik ranking ketika di sekolah lanjutan tingkat atas pada sebagian mahasiswa semester awal dibandingkan mahasiswa semester akhir, meskipun mayoritas mahasiswa kependidikan masih berasal dari mereka yang memiliki ranking bawah ketika di sekolah lanjutan tingkat atas. Beberapa opsi kebijakan antara lain: perlunya pengetatan perizinan pendirian LPTK mengedepankan kriteria “mutu”; persyaratan ketat terhadap penguasaan konten dan pedagogis; pemberlakukan skema kredit mahasiswa; peluang guru selain dari unsur daerah, dibuka peluang guru dari wilayah Jawa dengan pengelolaan terpusat; memberlakukan guru kontrak dari wilayah Jawa ke wilayah 3T (terdepan, terluar, dan terpencil).

Abstract

The supported-community reform in Indonesia demanded strong actions for a nation democracy. In reality, however, the inner freedom for democracy is often challenged. Often, aspirations were expresse anarchisly, inresponsibly, and even destructively. The given freedom was often less understood and less accepted holistically. Implicitly, the reform in which intented to create an conducive climate of democracy will be difficult to address without an appropriatem undestanding and awareness over the meaning of the civil society with it’s own characteritics, cultures, and velues in the modern society. This article is intended to identify charateristics, cultures, and values of the civil society, particularly in education. Specifically, introduction to the civil society in education is important in an effort to identify a nation’s characters in a democratic, participative, reflective, thingking critically, to encourege the balancing power over the government. ABSTRAK Reformasi masyarakat madani di Indonesia menuntut tindakan yang kuat untuk demokrasi bangsa. Namun dalam kenyataannya, kebebasan dalam demokrasi sering mendapatkan hambatan. Seringkali, aspirasi ini diungkapkan anarkis, tidak bertanggung jawab, dan bahkan destruktif. Kebebasan yang diberikan sering kurang dipahami dan kurang diterima secara holistik. Secara implisit, reformasi ditujukan untuk menciptakan iklim kondusif demokrasi akan sulit untuk dicapai tanpa pemahaman yang sesuai sesuai dan kesadaran tentang arti karekteristik budaya, dan nilai-nilai masyarakat sipil dalam masyarakat modern. Artikel ini ditujukan untuk mengidentifikasi karakteristik, budaya, dan nilai-nilai masyarakat sipil, khususnya di bidang pendidikan. Secara khusus, pengenalan kepada masyarakat sipil dalam pendidikan penting dalam upaya untuk mengidentifikasi karakter suatu bangsa secara demokratis, partisipatif, reflektif, berpikir yang kritis, untuk mendorong keseimbangan kekuasaan atas Pemerintah.

Abstract

This paper discusses the transformation trend of Javanese songs that can represent postmodernism following the development of the internet, social media, and other digital technologies. This phenomenon is interesting to study because the Vuca posture (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) is characterized by conditions full of uncertainty, chaos, ambiguity, and complexity that touch almost all aspects of life, including the world of music. This paper aims to a. inventory the singers as representatives of Javanese music characterized by dialects; and b. discuss the transformative contextualization of the trend of Javanese songs with Vuca conditions. Through a qualitative descriptive approach, this study produces a. inventory of Javanese singers as a transformative form of postmodernity in Vuca conditions; b. transformative trend of Javanese songs with East Javanese and Yogya-Soloan dialects, which successfully provide options in the context of maintaining culture, especially Javanese, in the Vuca era which is full of uncertainty over the identity and representation of the country's culture due to the unstoppable rise of other popular music, both foreign and local. This transformation can potentially be a model for other regional language music.

Abstract

The aims of this study are to explore the Indonesian language Subject -refer to Bahasa Indonesia as instructional practices has coherence or alignment with the national curriculum. This study was designed to apply quantitative descriptive methods in examining class instruction of Indonesian language at junior secondary schools has the level of alignment with the standard national curriculum. This study found majority of teachers described that they had delivered all topics required by the curriculum standard. Interestingly, findings showed that there were only one teacher taught less than 70% of the curriculum standard and also were indicated that only a few teachers  taught less than 100% of the content of the topics set on the  curriculum standard. This number provide evidence the availability of uncovered topics in some areas. This finding should significantly be great concern since the negative effect may be potentially affected on student learning and student performance on the standard national curriculum, further study should be done on this area of the level students’ understanding what teachers’ tauhgt.

Abstract

Tulisan ini membahas mengenai representasi nilai pendidikan dalam aspek kearifan lokal terhadap film berlatar Indonesia Timur. Pembahasan mengenai hal ini menarik karena banyak film di Indonesia Timur yang secara khusus membahas isu pendidikan yang menggambaran kekurangan unsur pendidikan formal serta juga solusi yang diambil oleh masyarakat atas ketertinggalan pendidikan berdasarkan konteks kearifan lokal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) mengungkapkan nilai pendidikan dalam aspek lokalitas masyarakat yang tercermin dalam film berlatar Indonesia Timur; 2) melakukan analisis data terhadap film-film Indonesia Timur dengan kontekstualisasi dan penelitian lain yang membahas isu tersebut. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah deskripsi konteks kearifan lokal dalam film-film Indnesia Timur. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah penmaknaan representasi lokalitas dalam film-film tersebut. Teknik penarikan simpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah induktif. Adapun langkah-langkah penelitian adalah: 1) mengamati dan mencatat film berlatar Indonesia Timur, khususnya mengenai representasi nilai pendidikan dalam lokalitas; 2) melakukan analisis dalam mengkorelasikan data film dengan kondisi kontekstual dan penelitian lain yang membahas isu tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) beberapa film yang berlatar di Indonesia Timur, memperlihatkan keterbatasan akses dan infrastruktur sehingga mereka memilih untuk mengambil inisiatif dalam dunia pendidikan seperti dalam hal gotong-royong membangun sekolah, guru sukarela, dan model pendidikan kontekstual; 2) kajian tentang kondisi pendidikan di Indonesia Timur memperlihatkan keterbatasan peran pemerintah terutama dalam infrastruktur dan ketersediaan guru yang berasal dari masyarakat setempat. Simpulan dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan, kearifan lokal masyarakat Indonesia Timur, menjadi kontrol sekaligus nilai lebih atas keterbatasan akses pendidikan untuk masyarakat setempat.
