Abstract

There are two objectives of this research; 1) to find out the types of speech acts  and 2) to describe the speech acts used to avoid the practice of social discrimination. As for the data, they were collected from the quotation from the novel. The result of this research is concluded that illocutionary acts as much as 57% or equal to 51 out of 90 data dominated to avoid the practice of social discrimination in the form of verbal expression (37%), avoidance (15%), exclusion (4%), and physical abuse (18%). After that, followed by locutionary acts as much as 34% or equal to 31 out of 90 data is also used to avoid the practice of social discrimination in the form of verbal expression (11), avoidance (4%), physical abuse (18%), and it does not appear at all to avoid exclusion. Lastly, perlocutionary acts as much as 9% or equal to 8 out of 90 data, it less appear to avoid the practice of social discrimination in the form of avoidance (4%), exclusion (2%), and it does not appear at all to avoid verbal expression, and physical abuse.

Abstract

This thesis explores the influences of conflicts toward social aspects in The Casual Vacancy novel by J. K. Rowling. There are two objectives of this research; 1) To find out the forms of conflicts int the novel The Casual Vacancy by J. K. Rowling and 2) To explain the conflicts influences the social aspects in the novel The Casual Vacancy by J. K. Rowling. In researching a literary work related to social. The researcher uses Sociology of Literature approach, conflict theory by Lewis Alfred Coser and Social Aspects. The methodology in this study is qualitative research by taking data from quotations in the novel which the researcher conveys descriptively. The result of this research is internal conflict showing the conflict influences the social aspects, it is social relationship. The second result of this research is internal conflict showing the conflict influences the social aspects, it is criminality. Conflict that occurs between two different groups, which will strengthen the conflicting group by providing clear boundaries with other groups. These two conflicts influence social aspects with insignificant result. It means a way of viewing situation, condition and issues in the society can show internal and external conflicts in daily life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of trust in the main character's achievement in getting success in the movie Burnt by Michael Kalesniko. There are two objectives of this research. The first is to identify the types of beliefs in the movie. The second is how trust affects the success of the main character in the movie. The theory used in this study is Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs with the influence of trust as the key to success. Trust is used to see the achievement of the main character in passing each level of needs and its influence on the success contained in the film. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive. The researcher found types of trust such as cognitive trust and affective trust. Each of these types is inseparable from how the main character meets each level of the hierarchy of needs. The trust that was initially based on the logic and ability of the main character grew stronger and gave rise to emotional trust that led to him succeeding in achieving success. The researcher concludes that trust is very influential to achieve success through the hierarchy of needs in the Burnt movie.
