Abstract

This research was aimed to get empirical data and analyze the effects of reading habit and vocabulary mastery towards student’s speaking skill at private vocational schools in East Jakarta. This research used data analysis technique, those were descriptive statistic, requirement analysis, normality test, linearity test, and test of hypothesis (analysis of inferential). The research was held at State Senior High Schools in East Jakarta. Data collection was done by giving a test for reading habit, vocabulary mastery and listening skill to tenth-grade students at SMA 105 Ciracas and SMA 98 Cijantung. Due to the result, it can be inferred that there is an effect of reading habit towards student’s speaking skill.

Abstract

This study focuses on noun phrase translation alterations as well as noun phrase meaning translation. The goal of this research is to characterize the translation shifts of noun phrases used in the translation of That Sunday Morning, as well as to identify the meaning translation in noun phrases discovered while translating English noun phrases to Indonesian noun phrases in that Sunday Morning. This study method used was a comparative-descriptive-qualitative approach. The results obtained in this study are 80% (eighty percent) category shift, 12% (twelve percent) level shift, along with 4% (four percent) form-based translation and meaning-based translation. Catford (1965) proposed the notion of translation shift, which was then used to analyze data. Larson's (1984) theory of meaning based on translation was utilized. Quirk, Randolph, and Sidney Greenbaum (1973) offered a theory on English noun phrases. The results of this study are the translation of shifts of noun phrases and the translation of meanings in noun phrases. After collecting all the data, then put the data as examples. Examples of shifts in structure and basic meaning of translation (translation with regard to expressions).

Abstract

This research investigates the linguistic features commonly used in online scam messages from a forensic linguistic perspective. The researcher uses a qualitative descriptive approach to analyze twenty scam messages collected from SMS, WhatsApp, and email platforms. The data reveal recurring patterns of deceptive language, including impersonation of official institutions, expressions of urgency, persuasive tone, and call-to-action strategies. These linguistic features are used intentionally by scammers to manipulate victims and create a false sense of trust or fear. The findings highlight how language functions as a tool of deception in digital fraud, offering valuable insights for digital literacy education and forensic investigation. This research contributes to understanding deceptive communication and the practical application of forensic linguistics in combating online scams.
