Abstract

ABSTRACTAn experiment of corn drying using a dryer with a combination of solar and biomass energy have been done. The objective of this study was to determine the drying characteristics of corn using a dryer with a combination of solar and biomass energy, consist of the changes in temperature, relative humidity, the change of moisture content as well as the changes of the rate of drying. The research using experimental methods with descriptive analysis. The results showed that in the process of drying with solar energy, the air temperature in the drying chamber was determined by the intensity of solar radiation and temperature of the material varies according to the position of the rack. When using a replacement heat source, the temperature of the material also varies according to the position of the rack, where the highest was found at the bottom shelf followed by the middle shelf and the upper shelf respectively. The relative humidity (RH) of the drying chamber was vary during the drying process. On the use of heat from a biomass kiln, the average RH of air in the dryer is quite low at 51,5% compared with the RH outside the dryer where on average of 83,2 %. On the use of solar energy, the air humidity (RH) of air in the drying room is 66,1 % in average and the outside RH is 84,9 % in average. During drying the moisture content of the corn decrease from 38,6 % to 6,7 % wb at the end of drying process. The drying rate varies in each rack, where the bottom shelf was the highest in the range of 0,61 to 2,68 % / hour, followed by the middle shelf in the range of 0,45 to 1,72 % / hour and the lowest found on the top shelf with a range of 0,25 to 0,67% / hour. Abstract

ABSTRACT Extreme climate change is one of the factors that determine the quality of the plant. In this case one of the main factors driving plants to photosynthesise is light. (Alhadi, 2016). In general, the provision of ideal conditions is still limited to the protection of plants from extreme weather using greenhouse or better known as the greenhouse or plant house. Plant house is one way to provide an environment closer to the optimum conditions for plant growth. According to (Fides, 1992) the addition of artificial light to create long day conditions in the equator area of about 3-4 hours with the intensity of light with a range of 32-108 lux. Long day manipulations can be made using light from both incandescent and tube lamp sources (Kofranek, 1980). The purpose of this research is to study the substitution of sunlight with HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamp and LED (Light Emiting Diode) to optimize the growth of Cherry tomato plant in tropical plant house made from polyethylene (PE) roof. The results showed that the total intensity of light inside the plant house was obtained from the total intensity of the incoming sunlight in the plant house plus the total HID light bulb that is equal to 217.86 MJ/ m2 (treatment N2) and total sunlight plus total LED lamp light that is equal to 208.58 MJ / m2 (N3 treatment). But the intensity of this light is still much smaller than the total intensity of light outside the plant house (treatment N0) that is equal to 526.65 MJ / m2

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to measure or calculate total microbial, alcohol content, sugar content, pH, temperature, during the process of fermentation of nira aren by using fed batch method. Fermentation of nira aren is done for 10 hours to get alcohol content from nira aren fermentation by using fed batch method, alcohol content obtained 8.33%. In this study parameters that have been observed are sugar content, alcohol content, the amount of microbial biomass, pH, temperature.The results showed that the sugar content for 10 hours decreased from 12.17% -6.00%, the alcohol content during fermentation of nira aren within 10 hours increased from 0.33% -8.33%, then total microbial during fermentation increased from the first hour of 16.00 to the eighth hour of 1780.00, then the ninth hour down 1693.33 to the tenth hour 1493.33. For pH during fermentation of nira aren in time decrease from pH 7-4,00, and temperature during fermentation of nira aren is around 25 0C-27 0C.Keywords: Nira aren, Fermentation, Alcohol, Fed batch
