Abstract

PBL is a learning model that leads to strengthening competence of problem-solving, critical reasoning, and learning about learning. The purpose of this study was to determine the significance of the effect of applying the PBL learning model on the critical thinking competence of sixth-grade elementary school students on circle material. The approach applied in this study is a quantitative approach with a pre-test and post-test critical thinking design type. Data collection techniques in this study used critical thinking tests. The participants who were included in this study were 25 students of class VI at SDN 173270, siborong – borong , north sumatera. Data analysis using a one-sample t-test. Based on the calculation of the hypothesis testing is done using the t-test.  The normality test results for the value of critical thinking results are 0.139 > ? (0.05) exceeding the significant value, then the variable values are normally distributed, followed by using the one-sample t-test, the t-test results on the equation of the variance section which are assumed to show the Sig value (2)-tailed) < ? ie 0.000 < 0.05 then reject H0. So it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of the application of PBL on the mathematical critical thinking skills of grade VI elementary school students.

Abstract

The learning environment plays a crucial role in shaping students' motivation, especially in mathematics, a subject that often triggers anxiety and demands high reasoning skills. This study aims to analyze the influence of the learning environment's physical, social, and emotional dimensions on students' motivation to learn mathematics at SMPN 4 Siborongborong, a rural school with unique challenges. Using a quantitative explanatory approach with a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 30 eighth-grade students through adapted and validated instruments: the What Is Happening In this Class? (WIHIC) questionnaire for learning environment and the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) for learning motivation. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 25. The findings reveal that the emotional dimension of the learning environment significantly affects students' motivation (β = 0.347; p < 0.05), while the physical and social dimensions do not show statistically significant effects. The model explains 53.2% of the variation in learning motivation, indicating a strong relationship between the learning environment and student motivation. The results underscore the importance of fostering a favourable emotional climate in the classroom to enhance engagement and reduce math-related anxiety. These findings contribute to developing evidence-based strategies to improve mathematics learning outcomes in rural educational settings.

Abstract

The research was conducted from June to August 2023 in Nagori Sah Kuda Bayu Pasar Baru at an altitude of ± 136 m above sea level. The purpose of the research is to determine the effect of Empty Fruit Bunches (Janjang) and NPK fertilizer on the growth and production of long bean plants (Vigna sinensis L.). This research was conducted using a factorial randomized block design (RBD), consisting of two factors: The first factor is the application of Empty Bunches, which consists: T0=without the application of empty bunches, T1=2.4kg/plot, T2=4.8kg/plot, and T3=7.2kg/plot. The second factor is the addition of NPK fertilizer doses N0=without NPK fertilizer, N1=24g/plot, N2=48g/plot, N3=72g/plot. The parameters observed in this study include: Number of Leaves (Sheets) and Plant Height (cm) at 2, 4 and 6 WAP, Number of Fruits Per Sample Plant (Pods), Weight of Fruits Per Sample Plant (g), and Weight of Fruits Per Plot (kg). The research results indicate that the NPK 17+17+17 treatment significantly affected the Number of Leaves, Plant Height, Number of Fruits per Plant, Weight of Fruits per Plant, and Weight of Fruits per Plot. The best dose of NPK fertilizer 17+17+17 is 150 kg/ha (72 g/plot).
