Abstract

The scarcity of chemical fertilizers resulted in the termination of agricultural activities was carried out by the Pelita Hati women farmer group. An alternative solution that can be provided is to utilize organic materials in the surrounding environment, such as household organic waste. The waste will be converted into organic fertilizer using modern composting equipment, namely composter. The aim of this activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of participants in utilizing household organic waste into organic fertilizer using a composter. The method applied at Pelita Hati WFG, East Sidomulyo sub-district, Pekanbaru, Riau, are counseling, demonstrations and practices, and evaluation in making organic fertilizer from household organic waste with a composter. This activity was attended by members of Pelita Hati WFG and ran effectively. The results of the questionnaire shown that this activity can increase the knowledge and skills of participants in processing household organic waste into organic fertilizer.

Abstract

Smallholder rubber plantations in Riau in general have not reached high level of productivity. This study aimed to analyze the level of production efficiency from the technical, allocative and economic efficiency aspects of each sample farmer and the target to achieve technical, allocative and economic efficiency. This research was conducted using a survey method in Tapung Hulu District, Kampar Regency. The data used in this study consisted of primary data obtained using the interview method. Samples were taken by simple random sampling method consisted of 45 rubber farmers. Data analysis applied the Data Enveloment Analysis (DEA) method. The results of the study showed that most farmers have rubber inefficiencies that are technically, allocatively and economically. Thus the farmers must implement optimal input usage combined with cost minimization to achieve maximum profit in order to achieve production efficiency.

Abstract

The pattern of food consumption is a description of the combination of food choices that will be consumed by households to meet basic needs and adequate and balanced nutritional intake. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of catfish farmers, the structure of income and household expenditure and the factors that influence the pattern of food expenditure. This study has used a survey method where was located in Pekanbaru City. This study used cross section data obtained by interview method. The sampling method used simple random sampling with 98 catfish farmers. Data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistical analysis with binomial linear regression. There are four findings from this study, among other: First, catfish farmer has a productive age and have SMA education. The number of family members is 5 people. Experience raising catfish for 6-7 years. Second, household income consists of income on farming of catfish, income off farming of catfish and nonfarming income. Income on farming of catfish has the largest contribution in the structure of household income. Third, household expenditures consist of food and non-food expenditures. Food expenditure has the largest proportion relative to non-food expenditure. Fourth, the dominant factors that influence the pattern of household food expenditure of catfish farmers are income on farming of catfish, education of the farmer's wife and household savings, while income off farming of catfish, the number of family members and household assets do not significantly affect the pattern of household expenditure.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors affecting food consumption as carbohydrate sources in the province of West Sumatra. The data used is the data for Socio-Economic Survey of 2011 which is sourced from Statistics of West Sumatra Province. To see the factors that affect food consumption models built carbohydrate Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) were analyzed by the method of Seemingly Unrelated Regresion (SUR). Results of the study showed that the factors that influence food consumption of carbohydrate source is the price of the commodity itself, other commodity prices, education, household income, household mother, spending on consumption and region of residence. Response to price themselves commodities carbohydrate food sources are negative which indicates that all categories of commodities including normal goods. Shows the cross-price response substitution and complementary relationships between each commodity, all revenue Response carbohydrate food commodities is positive, which means that all commodities including staple goods. Increase residents' income to reduce the negative impact of rising food prices carbohydrate source. The strong response to changes in the price of rice to other commodities indicates that policy interventions are still needed in the field of rice. Tubers for food need to be improved so that the availability of these more stable commodity prices in the market because the requested amount is influenced by the price.
