Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the semiotic meaning of Wayang Gagrak in Jogjakarta, Surakarta, and Semarang. It was also intended to examine the functions and indigenous elements of Wayang Kulit in those areas. This research employed a qualitative method to explore the issue in a flexible manner but at the same time, retaining an in-depth and accurate result. Peirce‟s semiotic analysis, comprising three elements, i.e., representamen, object, and interpretant, was used to scrutinize Wayang Gagrak from the three provinces mentioned previously. Representamen refers to everything that can function as a sign. The term object, in this context, refers to the component represented by the sign, while the interpretant is the interpretation of the sign. All data from the observation of Wayang Gagrak of the three areas, literature related to Peirce‟s semiotic analysis, and interview with informants (such as dalang or puppeteer, semiotic experts, and Wayang enthusiasts) were examined to present a thorough result. The criteria of this objective involve: (1) able to explore all details and signs represented visually in Wayang Gagrak of the selected areas; (2) able to present the meanings of the symbols of the Wayang, and; (3) able to examine the functions of the signs.

Abstract

Child's growth and development is a parent's full attention, especially when the child is in the golden age. According to experts on mental development of children, 80 percent of children's brains develop in the golden age. So at that time, the role of parents is needed in monitoring the growth and development of children's brains. During the golden age the child's brain develops so quickly that any information will be absorbed, without seeing the information is good or bad. In addition to playing a role as a supervisor for the growth and development of children, parents must also be tasked with increasing knowledge, especially around child growth. One of the activities that can be trained to children in increasing knowledge while providing stimulus to the child's growth and development process is drawing. Connecting lines and joining dots in the pursuit of making a drawing requires a certain level of problem solving. In order for a child to consciously draw an object, they first need to visualize the shape and then work out the best way to reproduce it on paper. The problem-solving skills that children develop from drawing will also transfer over to other subjects like maths, where visual representations can often help in finding a solution.

Abstract

Early childhood education is a form of education that focuses on laying the foundation for physical growth and development (fine and gross motor coordination), intelligence (power of thought, creativity, emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence), socio emotional (attitude and behavior and religion) language and communication, in accordance with the uniqueness and stages of development that are passed by early childhood. (Adalilla, S, 2010) [1]We can also apply art to education. Through art we can provide alternatives for the development of the psychic potential of the self and can act as liberating soul cathars. So art education is also able to facilitate the needs of children to maximize their growth and development.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to produce an effective training model and the formation of Playgroup teachers who have better creative drawing competence than before. This research approach is a research and development (R&D) design. These stages, namely the collection of data needs for model development, design development of model development, model validation of model trials (individual, group, and limited), model revisions, model trials, and final model revisions. The results of this study are creative drawing training models that have proven their effectiveness. The results of the effectiveness test showed a pretest value, namely a B value (10%), a C value (15%), and a D value (75%). The posttest results showed that the value of A (60%), and the value of B (40%). The results of the study concluded that the final model of development results was effective and could develop creative drawing competencies in Playgroup teachers. The development research model is recommended to be recommended as a model / pilot project in Semarang City.

Abstract

Amidst the rapid modernization, Batik is now considered old-fashioned and less favored; as an icon of traditional textile art, Batik has been inferior in keeping up with current demands of a so-called “modern” society. The quick-spreading fad of kekinian (or „trendy‟, „hype‟) has been more familiar to the younger generation. This phenomenon calls for a critical outlook on the “metaphysics of presence” that lays its foundation on the principle of aesthetics. To this growing lifestyle, perfections in life are achieved by expediency and pragmatism. Contrary to that, batik offers traditionalistic, symbolic approach of representing meaning; therefore, it becomes less popular compared to the recent trends. This study, however, sees the relevance of raising the discourse of batik in the midst of recent trends by approaching it from the lens of cultural pluralism that highlights its emphasis on a nation‟s “character”. However, in lieu of mere attempt of “reviving” the relevance of batik, this study aims further to discuss batik‟s true nature and the development of its existence throughout the advancement of culture and science.

Abstract

Children love to draw in any place without fear of being wrong (Oitjinsan). Connoisseurs are often fascinated by the children’s scratches. On the other hand, community generally does not understand where the beauty is. Drawings act as the symbols of the children’s deepest feelings. The thickness of the lines shows the nuances of the idea of a story that was experienced. Drawing means exploring the imaginations, thoughts, feelings and ideas of the environment. The urge to express through non-appearing words makes the scratches in the drawing becomes more meaningful. Drawing is a process of imagination that is expressed in the form of lines, colors and textures. Thus, scratch as an art product has fulfilled the requirements of artistic techniques and expressions. That is why understanding the beauty of the scratches is important.
