Abstract

Aging is a biological process that all individuals undergo. Tissues gradually lose their ability to repair and maintain their normal function, leading to various physical or health problems. A common medical issue among older adults is obesity, a condition in which fat accumulates in adipose and can affect a person's health. Hyperinsulinemia, glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia, hypertension, along with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), constitute impacts that obesity can cause. Griya Lansia 'Aisyiyah Baiturrohmah is an elderly community owned by the Regional Leadership of 'Aisyiyah in Yogyakarta which carries out its routine activities two times in a week. This research aimed to compare rheumatoid factor (RF) levels in obese and non-obese elderly and the existence of a link between BMI and RF examination results. This study employed a comparative experimental design with a cross-sectional approach. The study applied complete enumeration, namely all elderly who met the predetermined criteria became research samples, namely 31 people of female gender. The analysis applied both univariate and bivariate techniques within the form of mann-whitney and chi-square tests. No significant difference in RF levels was observed between obese and non-obese elderly individuals (p=0.728). Furthermore, no significant correlation was found between BMI and RF examination results in the elderly within the GLA Baiturrohmah community (p=1.000). The community is expected to maintain an appropriate diet and physical activity because it can help improve blood circulation, muscle strength, and joint stability without putting excessive pressure on the joints.

Abstract

Obesity is a condition of impaired body weight control system indicated by excessive fat accumulation in the body (i.e., exceeding 20% of ideal body weight) which can cause increased blood glucose levels and systemic inflammation. Obesity assessment can be measured using the Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist Circumference Ratio (WC). The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in glucose and CRP levels between obese and non-obese elderly in the Aisyiyah Baiturrohmah Elderly Home Community. This research method is comparative analytical observational, to see the comparison of Glucose and CRP levels in obese and non-obese elderly. The sample collection technique used the total sampling method with a cross-sectional approach with a total sample of 31 elderly (17 obese elderly and 14 non-obese elderly). The results of the study were in the form of primary data from the results of glucose examinations using the Point of Care Test method and CRP examinations using the latex agglutination method. The results of statistical analysis of glucose examinations using the one sample t-test showed a p-value of 0.001 which indicated a significant difference between obese and non-obese glucose levels. Meanwhile, statistical tests were not carried out on CRP because all samples were found to be non-reactive, so it was stated that no significant difference was found between the CRP of obese elderly and the CRP of non-obese elderly

Abstract

Thyroid disorders are a problematic condition in individuals due to dysfunction of the thyroid gland, such as changes in its form and function. The most common thyroid disorders include hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. This study aims to identify and analyze TSH, FT3, and FT4 levels in individuals diagnosed with thyroid disorders. This research uses a cross-sectional method by collecting secondary data. Secondary data for this research was obtained from records of TSH, FT3 and FT4 hormone examinations in the laboratory at Anutaloko Parigi Regional Hospital. This data covers the period January to December 2024, then processed and analyzed using descriptive statistical tests in SPSS, then presented in table format. Based on age characteristics, the majority of respondents with thyroid disorders were aged 25-59 years with a percentage of 25 people with hyperthyroidism and 11 people with hypothyroidism. Respondents with the most thyroid disorders were diagnosed with hyperthyroidism rather than hypothyroidism. The total number of patients who had TSH, FT3 and FT4 checked at Anutaloko Parigi Regional Hospital found that patients with hyperthyroidism were predominantly female and aged 25-59 years.
