Abstract

Heavy metal exposure can affect human health. One of them is exposure to lead metal which is toxic which can accumulate in the human body. Exposure to lead in the human body has the effect that it can affect the hematological system by interfering with heme synthesis which can shorten the life of red blood cells (erythrocytes) causing anemia. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between blood lead levels and the number of erythrocytes in pregnant women in the Puskesmas Abiansemal I Badung. This research is an analytic study with a cross sectional design. The population in this study were all pregnant women who live in the Puskesmas Abiansemal I Badung. The number of samples as many as 36 respondents were taken by purposive sampling technique. The results of this descriptive study showed that the blood lead levels of pregnant women averaged 22.06 ± 7.027 g/dL with a minimum value of 6.22 g/dL and a maximum value of 30.52 g/dL. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between blood lead levels and the number of erythrocytes in pregnant women (p = 0.170).

Abstract

Healthcare services must continuously be improved to provide the best care for the community. Patient satisfaction is the result of patients' evaluations of healthcare services, comparing their expectations with the actual healthcare services received in a hospital setting. Patient satisfaction with laboratory services is not solely determined by the availability of sufficient healthcare personnel but also requires strong commitment and dedication from healthcare workers to provide professional services, supported by adequate facilities and medical equipment. This study aims to assess the level of outpatient satisfaction with laboratory services at RSUD Klungkung. The research employs an observational method with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires, with a sample of 97 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The data analysis in this study was performed using the Chi-Square test. Based on the five service quality dimensions—reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles—the results showed a p-value < 0.05. Among these dimensions, responsiveness had the lowest p-value (0.005 < 0.05), indicating its stronger influence. These findings conclude that there is a significant relationship between service quality dimensions and the level of outpatient satisfaction with laboratory services at RSUD Klungkung. Furthermore, the responsiveness dimension, which had the lowest p-value compared to the other four dimensions, indicates that it has the most significant impact on patient satisfaction with laboratory services provided by the staff at RSUD Klungkung.

Abstract

Prothrombin time (PT) testing is essential to evaluate blood clotting disorders; however, its results are strongly influenced by pre-analytical factors such as temperature and the storage duration of citrate plasma. This study aimed to determine the effect of temperature variations and storage time of citrate plasma on PT values. This experimental study with a cross-sectional approach used 20 citrate plasma samples obtained through accidental sampling. PT examinations were carried out at the Hematology Laboratory of the Denpasar Health Polytechnic in May 2024 using the CoaDATA 4004 instrument. Samples were tested immediately after centrifugation, then after storage at room temperature (20–25°C) and in a refrigerator (2–8°C) for 2 hours and 4 hours, respectively. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, Repeated Measures ANOVA, and One-Way ANOVA. The results showed significant differences in PT values after 2- and 4-hour storage at both room and refrigerated temperatures (p=0.000). The average PT value immediately after collection was 12.2 seconds, increasing to 12.5 and 12.7 seconds at room temperature and to 12.9 and 13.1 seconds under refrigeration. Based on statistical tests, both storage temperature and duration affected citrate plasma PT values. Conclusion : PT testing should be performed as soon as possible after sample collection or with a delay of less than 2 hours at room temperature. If a longer delay is unavoidable, citrate plasma is recommended to be stored in a freezer (-20°C) with routine temperature monitoring to maintain coagulation factor stability.

Abstract

Fast and accurate laboratory result validation is essential to support clinical services, yet manual processes often require considerable time and increase the risk of error. This study aimed to analyze the effect of implementing an autovalidation system within the Laboratory Information System (LIS) on laboratory result validation time at the Prodia National Reference Laboratory. This research employed a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design by analyzing 189,150 laboratory test records, consisting of 94,575 data from the pre-autovalidation period (2023) and 94,575 data from the post-autovalidation period (2024). Data were obtained from LIS integrated with the AlinIQ AMS Abbott Middleware. Descriptive analysis and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test were performed, as the data distribution was not normal. The findings revealed that the average validation time before autovalidation was 54.70 minutes, which decreased to 26.84 minutes after implementation. Time efficiency improved by 50.92%, while manual analyst involvement was reduced by 80.13%. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference (p < 0.001) between pre- and post-autovalidation periods. In conclusion, autovalidation implementation effectively accelerated validation time and reduced analyst workload, supporting the digital transformation of laboratories toward a more efficient and responsive system. It is recommended that other clinical laboratories adopt autovalidation while maintaining manual verification for results that fail system rules.
