Abstract

ABSTRACTQuality assurance and food safety should be a top priority in the food processing industry. One way to fulfill both is by implementing a hygienic design. Hygienic design is the application of equipment and facility design techniques that still allow proper cleaning and sanitation processes to be carried out. The implementation of hygienic design is carried out by following various guidelines issued by both national and international institutions. Often the implementation of hygienic design is implemented too late, thus increasing the risk of unhygienic. This literature review was conducted to study the extent to which hygienic design can be applied from the early stages of factory design by referring to existing guidelines.

Abstract

Online engineering education presents unique challenges in supporting student collaboration and engagement. This study looks at how Google Slides and Google Sheets can help improve collaboration and student engagement in online chemical engineering activities about process control and economic analysis. The study involved 11 students who worked together in real time using shared documents, with the instructor giving quick feedback during the activities. A questionnaire was used to collect students' opinions, and the results were analyzed using simple descriptive methods. The findings indicate that both Google Slides and Google Sheets were highly effective in fostering collaboration and enhancing the learning experience, with most students finding them user-friendly and helpful for understanding the material. This suggests that basic digital tools like Google Slides and Sheets can support better learning and teamwork in online engineering education. Future studies could explore broader applications of such tools across other technical disciplines.

Abstract

Background - Creative thinking skills are an important ability in 21st century learning, especially in mathematics as part of higher order thinking skills. Purpose - This study aims to analyze the effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) on aspects of students' mathematical creative thinking skills, namely fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Method/approach - This quantitative research used a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group design which was carried out for 1 month. The sample consisted of 32 students of class VIII-10 and 31 students of class VIII-11 of SMPN 1 Bandar Lampung who were selected by purposive sampling. Findings - The Mann Whitney U Test results showed that students who learned with PBL experienced a more significant increase in mathematical creative thinking skills than students who learned conventionally, especially in certain aspects. The application of PBL not only improves creativity in general but also strengthens the originality and flexibility of students' thinking in mathematical problem solving. The strength of this study lies in the in-depth analysis of the effect of PBL on specific aspects of mathematical creativity, not just the overall improvement. Conclusions - This study also provides empirical evidence of the effectiveness of PBL in improving higher order thinking skills at the junior high school level. Novelty/Originality/Value - Thus, PBL is proven to have an effect on students' mathematical creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Access to clean water remains a significant challenge in Indonesia’s Frontier, Remote, and Disadvantaged (3T) regions due to limited infrastructure and resources. One potential solution to address this challenge is the adoption of small-scale desalination systems. Among various available technologies, Humidification-Dehumidification (HDH) is considered promising for remote areas because of its operational simplicity, low investment costs, and compatibility with renewable energy sources. However, selecting the most appropriate HDH configuration requires careful evaluation across multiple criteria. This study aims to determine the most suitable HDH configuration for East Sumba Regency, a representative 3T region, by analyzing economic, technical, environmental, and social aspects. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to compare four HDH system configurations: Closed Air Closed Water (CACW), Closed Air Open Water (CAOW), Open Air Closed Water (OACW), and Open Air Open Water (OAOW). Data were collected from published literature, and each configuration was assessed using a hierarchical decision-making model. The analysis found that the CAOW configuration ranked highest with a priority weight of 32.6%, primarily due to its superior maximum freshwater production (182 kg/hour) and the lowest freshwater cost (2.5 USD/m³) among the alternatives. The findings contribute to the development of data-driven decision-making frameworks for technology selection in under-resourced regions. This study provides practical insights for policymakers and engineers seeking sustainable and effective desalination solutions to improve clean water access in 3T regions, particularly East Sumba.
