Abstract

This paper discusses the application of project-based learning (PBL) to improve student’ psychomotor skills and concept understanding, as well as knowing what PBL contribution to the improvement of student’ psychomotor skills in chemistry learning. The study was conducted in three cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection steps. One set of data consists of student’ psychomotor skills assesment, student’ conceptual understanding and questionnaire responses were obtained from the action research. Learning process was performed in the eleventh grade students included 37 students (10 males and 27 females) and 3 collaborators. The successful research was indicated by 85% of students achieve the mastery learning on concept understanding and well on psychomotor aspects. Data collection was performed using documentation method by questionnaire, observations, and tests. Data was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results show that all aspects of the psychomotor assessed include sets, mechanical response, complex response, adaptation, and origination were in high category. At the end of the lesson, the project assigned to students were evaluated jointly between teachers and students. The project results in the form of a series of distillation apparatus is applied to separate the natural compounds.

Abstract

The vulnerability of communities in facing volcano disaster is one of the indicators of the low literacy of science. The low knowledge about volcanic material causes it needs to be packed in an attractive learning so that it can tap into the ability of students’ science literacy by using teaching materials that are closer to student learning environments. This research aims to develop the local wisdom-based natural science module on the theme of Mount Kelud eruption, which is both theoretical and empirical. The type of this research development is Research and Development (R & D) by adapting the ASSURE instructional design. The results of this research are the validation results of theoretical feasibility of teaching materials based on the components of material feasibility of 87, 5% with very good category, components of presentation feasibility of 91, 7% with very good category, components of language feasibility of 88, 9% with very good category, components of local wisdom values of 87, 5% with very good category, and components of science literacy feasibility of 88, 9% with 88, 9% with very good category. The results of empirical feasibility are the test results of students’ science literacy with N-gain variation value of 0,2; 0,3; and 0,4 respectively with low, medium, and medium category. The results show that the developed local wisdom-based natural science module is suitable to improve the ability of students’ science literacy either theoretically or empirically.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of environmental education in Elementary School. The study was conducted at SDN 1 Kota Banda Aceh. The research subjects are school residents (students, teachers, education personnel, principals, and school committees). This research is designed using a qualitative approach. This study is focused on the implementation of environmental education in primary schools. Data collection uses observation sheet instrument (observation), focused interview, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The research data were analyzed descriptively. The results show that the implementation of environmental education can be realized in habituation to maintain personal hygiene, class cleanliness, and worship together according to his beliefs and sports.

Abstract

In today’s global era, thinking skills are essential to be mastered by students. This research intended to develop and implement PBL-based worksheets integrated with green chemistry and ethnoscience to improve thinking skills, which included generic science skills and critical thinking skills. These skills were observed through learning outcomes, which were divided into three domains, i.e., cognitive, psychomotor, and affective. The cognitive aspect was assessed through pre- and post-test results, the psychomotor domain was valued through an essay test and observational sheets, and the affective domain was evaluated using questionnaires and observational sheets. This research was conducted with XI graders of MAN I Semarang and SMA Pekalongan. There were three rounds implemented; first, preliminary research which has observed the problems in chemistry learning, particularly on the hydrolysis topic and continued to the development of worksheets, then validated. The next round was the implementation of the worksheets. The N-gain test was used to see the influence of the developed worksheets on the increase in critical thinking skills and generic science skills. The critical thinking scored 0.58 (moderate), while the generic science, which covered scale awareness and logical inference, scored 0.63 (moderate) and 0.73 (high), respectively. A paired t-test results revealed that there was a remarkable increase in the logical inference and awareness of scale. Moreover, the results of the study found that the applied worksheets were practical for cognitive, affective, psychomotor seen from the learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe students' creative thinking skills in a problem-based learning model with scaffolding in the Biochemistry course. This is mixed-method research with an explanatory sequential research design with a sample of 173 students from the Chemistry Education and Chemistry study programs, Universitas Jambi. In this study, the researchers only used the experimental class. The sampling technique used is total sampling and purposive sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets, test instruments, interview instruments, and response questionnaires. Quantitative data analysis used is hypothesis testing in the form of ANOVA test with Post-Hoc Scheffe test and T-test. The findings of this study indicate that the ANOVA test results showed a significant difference in the average creative thinking (cognitive) test results and student response questionnaire results in scaffolding-based integrated biochemistry learning. In addition, there is also a significant effect between cognitive test results on student responses in scaffolding-based integrated biochemistry learning. So it can be concluded that there are differences in the creative thinking skills of chemistry education students and chemistry students in using scaffolding integrated problem-based learning models in Biochemistry courses.
