Abstract

This study aims to develop a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model to enhance critical thinking skills in children aged 5–6 years. The research is based on the urgency of fostering 21st-century skills from early childhood and the limited availability of specific learning models for Early Childhood Education (ECE). Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) by Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel, this study involved expert validators, teachers, and children aged 5–6 years from a ECE institution. The findings revealed that the developed PjBL model and the accompanying teacher guidebook demonstrated high feasibility. Expert validation using Aiken’s V technique produced a high coefficient, indicating strong content validity and internal consistency. Teachers responded positively, stating that the model was easy to understand, relevant, and effective in stimulating children’s critical thinking. The PjBL model integrates syntax, teacher reaction principles, social collaboration systems, and contextual media to promote simple analysis, evaluation, and creation skills. Therefore, it is highly suitable for improving critical thinking in early childhood.

Abstract

This study aims to improve children's ability to recognize geometric shapes through the use of puzzle media at TK Murni PGRI Jabres. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 18 children, consisting of 11 girls and 7 boys in Group B1 of TK Murni PGRI Jabres, Sruweng District, Kebumen Regency.The research instruments used included observation sheets, with data collection techniques carried out through observation and documentation. The indicator of success was determined when at least 78% of the children achieved a score of 4 based on the assessment instrument.The results showed that the use of puzzle media significantly improved children's ability to recognize geometric shapes. In the initial condition (pre-cycle), the average score of the children was only 2.5 with a percentage of 48.3%. In Cycle I, the average score increased to 3 with a percentage of 58%. A more significant improvement occurred in Cycle II, with an average score of 3.45 and a percentage of 80%.In conclusion, the implementation of puzzle media is proven to be effective in improving children's ability to recognize geometric shapes in Group B1 at TK Murni PGRI Jabres. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk  meningkatkan kemampuan anak dalam mengenal bentuk geometri melalui media puzzle di TK Murni PGRI Jabres. Penelitian ini menggunkan metode penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus, meliputi tahapan perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian adalah 18 anak yang terdiri dari 11 anak perempuan dan 7 anak laki-laki di kelompok B1 TK Murni PGRI Jabres Kecamatan Sruweng Kabupaten Kebumen. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi lembar observasi dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi dan dokumentasi. Indikator keberhasilan ditetapkan apabila minimal 78% anak mencapai nilai 4 sesuai dengan instrumen penilain. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa media puzzle mampu meningkatkan kemampuan menganal geometri anak usia dini secara signifikan. Pada kondisi awal par-siklus, rata-rata anak hanya mencapai nilai 2,5 dengan persetase 48,3% . Pada siklus I rata-rata nilai naik menjadi 3 dengan presentase 58%. Peningkatan signifikan terjadi pada siklus II dengan rata-rata nilai 3,45 dengan nilai presntase 80%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan media puzzle dalam meningkatkan kemampuan anak mengenal bentuk geometri kelompok B1 di TkK Murni PGRI Jabres terbukti efektif.

Abstract

This study aims to develop innovative eco-literacy activities for environmental awareness among children aged 5–6 years. The background to the study is based on children’s limited understanding of environmental conservation behaviour, which remains sporadic and has not yet been integrated into learning. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4-D development model, comprising the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research subjects comprised subject matter and media experts, as well as users—namely teachers and young children—at several early childhood education institutions in Banjarnegara Regency. Data collection techniques included questionnaires and documentation, whilst data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods, with validity testing performed using Aiken’s V. The research results indicate that the developed product is a guidebook for eco-literacy activities based on herbal plants, covering activities such as identifying, planting, caring for, and utilising plants. Expert validation results showed that Aiken’s V fell within the ‘valid’ category, whilst the feasibility and practicality tests conducted by teachers yielded an average score of 4.8, falling within the ‘highly feasible’ and ‘highly practical’ categories. The activities developed provide contextual and meaningful learning experiences, thereby helping children understand the relationship between actions and their impact on the environment. Consequently, this product is suitable for use as a learning guide to enhance environmental understanding in early childhood, although further research is required to test its long-term effectiveness. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan inovasi aktivitas ekoliterasi dalam pengenalan lingkungan pada anak usia 5–6 tahun. Latar belakang penelitian didasarkan pada rendahnya pemahaman anak terhadap perilaku menjaga lingkungan yang masih bersifat insidental dan belum terintegrasi dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian menggunakan metode Research and Development (R&D) dengan model pengembangan 4-D yang meliputi tahap define, design, develop, dan disseminate. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas validator ahli materi dan media, serta pengguna yaitu guru dan anak usia dini di beberapa lembaga PAUD di Kabupaten Banjarnegara. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dan dokumentasi, sedangkan analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif dengan uji validitas menggunakan Aiken’s V. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa produk yang dikembangkan berupa buku panduan aktivitas ekoliterasi berbasis tanaman herbal yang mencakup kegiatan mengenal, menanam, merawat, dan memanfaatkan tanaman. Hasil validasi ahli menunjukkan nilai Aiken’s V berada pada kategori valid, sedangkan uji kelayakan dan kepraktisan oleh guru memperoleh rata-rata skor 4,8 dengan kategori sangat layak dan sangat praktis. Aktivitas yang dikembangkan mampu memberikan pengalaman belajar yang kontekstual dan bermakna sehingga membantu anak memahami hubungan antara tindakan dan dampaknya terhadap lingkungan. Dengan demikian, produk ini layak digunakan sebagai panduan pembelajaran dalam meningkatkan pemahaman lingkungan pada anak usia dini, meskipun masih memerlukan penelitian lanjutan untuk menguji efektivitas jangka panjangnya.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a bilateral hand skill-based learning media called “Tree and Caterpillar Numbers” to improve number concept recognition from 1 to 20 in children aged 5–6 years. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the 4D model consisting of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages; however, this study was limited to the develop stage. The research subjects were children aged 5–6 years at RA Al Ma’arif Mandiraja and TK Perwanida Mandiraja. Data collection techniques included observation, expert validation questionnaires, and documentation. The results showed that the developed learning media was categorized as feasible to be used in learning activities because it integrated motor and cognitive activities through bilateral hand coordination. This media created a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment and helped children understand number concepts more concretely. Therefore, bilateral hand skill-based learning media can be used as an alternative instructional tool to improve early childhood number concept abilities. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran berbasis bilateral hand skill berupa pohon dan ulat angka untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mengenal konsep bilangan 1–20 pada anak usia 5–6 tahun. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan (research and development) dengan model 4D yang meliputi tahap define, design, develop, dan disseminate, namun penelitian dibatasi sampai tahap develop. Subjek penelitian melibatkan anak usia 5–6 tahun di RA Al Ma’arif Mandiraja dan TK Perwanida Mandiraja. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, angket validasi ahli media dan ahli permainan anak usia dini, serta dokumentasi. Hasil pengembangan menunjukkan bahwa media “pohon dan ulat angka” dinyatakan layak digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran karena mampu mengintegrasikan aktivitas motorik dan kognitif melalui koordinasi kedua tangan. Media ini dapat menciptakan pembelajaran yang lebih interaktif, menyenangkan, dan membantu anak dalam memahami konsep bilangan secara lebih konkret. Oleh karena itu, media pembelajaran berbasis bilateral hand skill dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif media pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan konsep bilangan anak usia dini.
