Relevance and meaningfulness of the content courses need to be established to make learners realize that the knowledge acquired in the clasroom can be utilized to give contributions to society. This research is aimed at designing a learning model integrating ESP course and Service Learning Program. ESP is a subject designed to enable students to design ESP programs. The integration of ESP and SLP allows students to exercise their skills in designing an ESP program, which is eventually implemented as one of their SLP programs. A good translation should be parallel with the source text both in form and in meaning. Yet, because of the uniqueness of each language, parallel in form is often difficult to achieve. This paper attempts to analyze the translation of Sean Coveyâs The 7th Habits of Highly Effective Teens in terms of a sociolinguistic point of view and different types of equivalence. The analysis and discussion are based on some cases that I found. Based on the examples, two conclusions can be drawn. First, from the sociolinguistic point of view, the use of SAYA instead of AKU to refer to the author creates more distance with the readers. Second, the translator seems to have worked hard to produce a dynamic equivalence of the source text, but in some cases the idiomatic expressions are not well translated. Thus, the results of the translation do not sound as idiomatic as the source text. DOI: https://doi.org/10.24071/llt.2012.150203

The studentsâ perception on the teacher instruction shows whether the teaching techniques meet the studentsâ need or not. Because of this reason, the researcher wants to find out the varieties of pre-reading activities used by the teacher and the studentsâ perception on the implementation of the pre-reading activities. There were two problem formulations in this study: 1) What kinds of pre-reading activities that are used by Basic Reading II teacher in the English Language Education Study Program of Sanata Dharma University? 2) How is the studentsâ perception on pre-reading activities used by the teacher? This research was a survey research. In gathering the data, there were two instruments used in this research. They were interview and questionnaire. The interview was done by interviewing the teacher of Basic Reading II Class. The interview was used to answer the first research question about the varieties of pre-reading activities in Basic Reading II class. Then, the researcher distributed the questionnaire to 56 students of Basic Reading II class. The questionnaire was used to answer the second research question about the studentsâ perception on pre-reading activities used by the teacher. The result of this research showed that brainstorming, pre-teaching vocabulary, pre-questioning, visual aids, and KWL strategy were the varieties of pre-reading activities used by the teacher. There were two different implementation of pre-teaching vocabulary. There were also two activities combined together, they were the use of visual aids and KWL strategy. This paper discusses content validity and authenticity of the English test items in National Examination (UN) year 2012. It is worth discussion because UN, which was administered nationally, was the most important standardized test to assess Indonesian students’ competence. The study aimed to find out how valid the content of the English test items of National Examination year 2012 for senior high schools isand how authentic the English test items of National Examination year 2012 for senior high schools is. The writers employed a qualitative research with document analysis to conduct the analysis of both content validity and authenticity of the English test items. The data were obtained from the document and analyzed by using checklists. Besides, to maintain the validitiy of the analysis, a triagulation was done by distributing aquestionnaire to four experts in language assessment. There were twofindings resulted form the analysis. First, the content of the National Examination year 2012 was 98.8% valid since almost all of the contents were relevant to the test specifications. However, there were three reading test versions which failed to represent kinds of texts, namely explanation text. Second, the National Examination year 2012 met the criteria of authenticity with percentage 79.5% since some listening and reading test items failed to conform to authenticity criteria. Natural language use, the relevance of the test topics, and real-world representativeness became problematic aspects to meet the higher standard of authenticity. This study centres on investigating the challenges faced by Indonesian EFL teachers when conducting classroom action research (CAR). In this pursuit, the paper employs content analysis techniques to delve into teachers’ competency in conducting CAR. This exploration is facilitated through an in-depth examination of the teachers’ CAR reports and conversations in the discussion forum on the learning management system (LMS) of Pendidikan Profesi Guru (PPG) or the Teacher Professional Education (TPE) program. The thematic content analysis was conducted manually and using NVivo 12 software to ease the data coding process. The results of the study showed that teachers’ knowledge of CAR varied, with most teachers perceiving an improvement in students’ scores as the primary indicator of CAR success. It also found that some teachers grappled with the technical aspects of conducting CAR, such as formulating appropriate research questions, reviewing the literature, selecting appropriate research instruments, analysing data, and reporting writing, while others encountered practical obstacles, including constraints related to time and resources. This study underscores the importance of providing ongoing support for EFL teachers to develop their CAR competencies and ultimately improve their teaching practices. The paper concludes with implications for future research and practice.

The existence of technology, particularly Google Docs, is vital to supporting students in surviving the online learning environment. This research, therefore, aims to investigate students’ perceptions of using Google Docs for online collaborative writing, as well as its benefits and limitations. There are two research questions addressed: (1) What are the students’ perceptions of the use of Google Docs for the ELESP students’ online collaborative? (2) What are the possible benefits and challenges of using Google Docs for the ELESP students’ online collaborative writing? This qualitative case study was conducted at the English Language Education Study Program of Sanata Dharma University. A close-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interview were utilized to collect data. The researchers discovered that most students had positive perceptions of using Google Docs for online collaborative writing. With the aid of its capabilities, Google Docs made online collaborative writing easier and more successful, particularly in students’ performance during group work, communication, and accessibility. Aside from the functionality of Google Docs, students’ active participation was also an important factor for successful online collaborative writing.
