Abstract

The Department of Tadris IPA IAIN Ponorogo in the 2020/2021 school year redesigned the curriculum to become the KKNI. The KKNI is applied to students starting in semester 1 of the 2020/2021 academic year. Where the types of courses and learning carried out are of course different from the previous curriculum. Implementation of learning with KKNI is certainly not as easy as expected. One of the obstacles to implementing the KKNI is the unavailability of the KKNI based lecturer and student handbooks that can be used during the learning process. Based on interviews with several science lecturers who were teaching in semester 1, the teaching materials used were still the teaching materials used in the previous curriculum. For example, when teaching the Energy in Living Systems course, the handbook used is the basic physics textbook used to teach students in the previous semester. This is what causes the buildup of material and is not optimal in linking physics material with other fields and teaching it more contextually. This is what underlies researchers to develop a textbook on energy in living systems based on the seven components of effective learning.

Abstract

Rapid globalization and technological growth have raised concerns about the erosion of local cultural values among youth. Integrating local wisdom into science education is now a key strategy to enhance scientific literacy and strengthen cultural heritage conservation. Ethnoscience offers a contextual approach by transforming indigenous knowledge into scientific concepts while preserving cultural identity. This study explores the ethnoscientific values of dhadak merak, an iconic element of the reog Ponorogo performance, and its potential in developing students' conservation character. Using a descriptive qualitative design, researchers selected junior high school science teachers and students in Ponorogo, Indonesia, via purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using an interactive qualitative process. The findings show that students view dhadak merak as a vital cultural heritage. They understand its physical characteristics, cultural significance, and the importance of sustainable resource use in its production. Students expressed pride in their local culture and awareness of the need to protect it against globalization. The study concludes that integrating dhadak merak-based ethnoscience into science education provides a meaningful context for promoting scientific literacy and cultural awareness. These results support the development of culturally responsive education and sustainable heritage preservation
