Abstract

This study aims to examine the comparison of room acoustics by using room engineering methods and testing zinc plate and GRC board materials in the same room. The results of the study show that the selection of materials for sound absorption in the room must be considered carefully and adjusted to the desired sound absorption needs. In testing using the room engineering method, it was seen that there was an increase in the effectiveness of sound absorption in both materials at various volume levels. However, in testing using the mandatory sound of the room acoustic tester, it can be seen that the sound frequency at the lower speaker position is more prominent in both materials at a lower volume. Meanwhile, in the test using the free sound of people giving speeches, it was seen that there was an increase in sound frequency at the top speaker position for both materials at a higher volume.

Abstract

The application of Double Skin Façade on the building envelope as an effort to save energy and increase thermal comfort, has been carried out for several decades. The application of DSF design parameters needs to be considered to achieve maximum energy savings and thermal comfort. A shading device as one of the parameters in the DSF not only functions as a shade but can also reduce heat entering the room. This study focuses on the effectiveness of applying a shading device in the DSF cavity for thermal comfort and energy efficiency of buildings. The literature review method was used to review previous studies that had been carried out, by examining the shading parameters to see their effect on comfort and energy savings. The results show that the positioning of the shading device can reduce energy use and increase thermal comfort significantly.

Abstract

Rumah bukan sekedar bangunan, tetapi juga konteks yang menyediakan peluang untuk aktivitas interaksi dan komunikasi yang biasa dengan persekitaran. Pada masa ini, rumah bukan saja berfungsi sebagai kediaman, tetapi boleh berfungsi sebagai tempat peluang untuk meningkatkan ekonomi. Fungsi rumah sebagai asas aktivitas ekonomi, dikenali sebagai Home Based Enterprises (HBEs) atau Household-Based Enterprises (UBR). Di Kelurahan Tamalanrea Jaya Kota Makassar usaha berbasis rumah tangga berkembang pesat, Kegiatan usaha yang dilakukan yaitu usaha perdagangan dan usaha jasa (penyewaan ruang). Berkembangnya usaha yang bertumpu pada rumah tangga tersebut menimbulkan masalah pada perubahan pola tatanan ruang rumah tinggal. Permasalahan yang ditimbulkan antara lain; terjadinya pergeseran fungsi ruang rumah, peningkatan kepadatan lahan, terganggunya privasi penghuni baik secara individu maupun keterkaitannya dengan mobilitas sosial ekonomi penghuninya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perubahan-perubahan yang terjadi pada pola penataan ruang rumah tinggal sebagai akibat dari usaha yang berteraskan rumah tangga, baik secara fisik maupun non fisik. Secara fisikalnya dapat dilihat daripada perubahan corak pemanfaatan ruang rumah. Secara non fisik melihat perubahan pada kondisi sosial ekonomi penghuni, selain itu juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor- faktor yang berhubungan/ berpengaruh pada perubahan pola tatanan ruang rumah akibat adanya usaha dalam rumah tangga. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian deskriftif dengan analisis data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian ini dapat memberikan kontribusi pada masyarakat, pemerintah dan bidang ilmu arsitektur tentang rumah yang terkait dengan UBR dan berbagai aspek kehidupan penghuninya.

Abstract

Waste management has become one of the major environmental challenges in coastal and rural areas, especially in remote regions. This community service activity aims to increase environmental awareness among children in Patoa Village through ecobrick training. Ecobrick is a method of reusing plastic waste by compressing it into plastic bottles to be used as a building material. The training was conducted in several stages: problem identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Children were involved directly in collecting plastic waste, learning about waste segregation, and practicing making ecobricks. The results showed that ecobrick training was effective in increasing children’s understanding of the plastic waste problem, fostering creativity, and encouraging active participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness. This activity also served as a form of early environmental education that could be replicated in other rural communities.

Abstract

Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon of increased microclimatic temperature in densely populated areas due to the lack of vegetation and high anthropogenic activities. The Community Service Program (KKN) in Daenaa Village, Gorontalo, aims to empower the community in mitigating UHI through a participatory approach. The implementation method includes environmental education, vertical greening training, and the creation of micro-architectural elements such as vertical gardens and pocket parks. This study uses a descriptive-qualitative approach with field observations, interviews, and activity documentation. The results show an increase in community awareness of micro-environmental issues and the formation of the "Kampung Hijau Daenaa" community as a sustainable program initiative. The vertical garden program has proven effective as a household-based mitigation strategy, enhancing environmental aesthetics and strengthening social networks among residents. These findings emphasize the importance of community participation as a key pillar in microclimate mitigation in densely populated areas.

Abstract

The development of vertical gardens in dense settlements offers an innovative model for micro-level Urban Heat Island (UHI) mitigation. This study documents the implementation of the Community Service Program (KKN) at Daenaa Village, Gorontalo, emphasizing education, social participation, and environmental innovation. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were obtained from field observations, interviews, and participatory documentation. The findings highlight that vertical garden installations not only enhance local microclimate comfort but also function as learning media for environmental awareness. The community’s enthusiasm and involvement indicate the success of participatory learning in fostering sustainable green practices. This initiative demonstrates that small-scale ecological interventions can yield meaningful social and environmental impacts in rural-urban transition areas.

Abstract

The increase in the number of students and academic activities at the Faculty of Law, Gorontalo State University (UNG) has not been matched by the availability of adequate facilities and infrastructure. The existing buildings are limited in terms of space capacity, thermal comfort, and learning environment quality, resulting in a less than optimal learning process. In addition, the existing buildings are not fully adapted to the tropical climate, which is characterized by high temperatures, high humidity, and high rainfall throughout the year. Therefore, it is necessary to redesign the Gorontalo State University Faculty of Law building in a way that addresses these issues in a functional and sustainable manner. This design aims to formulate a design concept for the UNG Faculty of Law using a Tropical Architecture approach that is responsive to the climate and capable of improving thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and the quality of learning spaces. The methods used in the design include field observations, literature studies, comparative studies, and analysis of site data, space requirements, structure, and building utilities. The design results emphasize the processing of building mass orientation, optimization of cross ventilation and natural lighting, use of secondary skin elements, application of voids as vertical ventilation, and provision of green open spaces as microclimate controllers. The application of this Tropical Architecture approach is expected to produce a comfortable, functional, energy-efficient, and sustainable Faculty of Law building that supports academic activities at Gorontalo State University.

Abstract

This research examines the optimization of natural and artificial lighting in the ABG Computer Laboratory using Dialux simulation. The study aims to evaluate daylight performance based on window configuration, investigate the causes of deviation between simulation results and on-site illuminance measurements, and develop an artificial lighting layout that fulfills visual comfort standards for computer-based learning spaces. The initial daylight simulation revealed that 59.8% of the total floor area achieved illumination levels of ≥300 lux; however, field measurements showed substantially lower illuminance due to shading from dense vegetation in front of the façade, leading to uneven light distribution across the room. The artificial lighting simulation using 50W 6500K LED luminaires successfully provided uniform illuminance of ≥500 lux throughout the working plane. These findings confirm that a hybrid lighting system—integrating optimized daylight and artificial lighting—is the most reliable and energy-efficient solution for computer-oriented educational environments.

Abstract

Thermal comfort is a fundamental parameter in architectural performance, especially in tropical climate regions. This study presents a thermal evaluation an outdoor open courtyard in the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Field measurements were conducted for 60 minutes using air temperature, black-globe radiation temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed as primary indicators. Results show that the courtyard exceeded comfort tolerance: average temperature reached 46 , global radiation >47 , humidity ranged from 32–48 %, and wind speed was near stagnant. The analysis reveals that direct solar exposure, heat-retentive paving, and blocked cross-ventilation due to building mass arrangement are the main contributors to outdoor thermal stress.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh variasi ISO dan waktu pemotretan terhadap kualitas citra pada kamera DSLR dalam kondisi cahaya alami. Pengambilan gambar dilakukan pada objek tanaman di lingkungan terbuka menggunakan kamera DSLR dengan lensa kit, dengan variasi ISO 100, 400, 1600, dan 3200 pada aperture tetap f/3.5. Sebanyak 12 foto diambil dalam tiga sesi pemotretan (09.55–11.55 WITA) menggunakan mode semi-otomatis (Aperture Priority) sehingga shutter speed disesuaikan otomatis oleh kamera. Data shutter speed dicatat dari metadata EXIF dan dianalisis bersama empat kriteria evaluasi: tingkat noise, highlight clipping, dynamic range, dan ketajaman detail. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ISO 100 secara konsisten menghasilkan gambar terbaik—bersih dari noise, detail tekstur tajam, dan dynamic range optimal—pada semua waktu pemotretan. Sebaliknya, ISO 400–3200 pada siang hari menyebabkan over exposure progresif hingga total whiteout. Pada kondisi penelitian ini, ISO 100 dengan aperture f/3.5 menghasilkan kualitas citra terbaik. Hasil evaluasi menggunakan skala kualitas empat tingkat (Optimal, Acceptable, Buruk, Unusable) menunjukkan bahwa hanya kombinasi ISO 100 pada rentang waktu 09.55–10.36 WITA yang memenuhi kategori Optimal. Penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya pemilihan ISO yang sesuai intensitas cahaya lingkungan, dengan catatan bahwa temuan ini terbatas pada kondisi siang hari tropis cerah dan tidak dapat digeneralisasikan ke kondisi pencahayaan lain.
