Abstract

This research and development was conducted with the purpose to obtain an interactive e-flipbook using the conceptual change strategy that is feasible to use for reducing student misconceptions on the topic of reaction rates. The feasibility was assessed based on the category of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This study utilized Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model consisting of the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. However, the focus of this study was limited to the stage of development. The observations were carried out on 15 students of SMA Negeri 1 Puri who had misconceptions about the sub-concept of the definition of reaction rates, surface area factor, temperature factor, and catalyst factor. The details of experimental results include: The validation data obtained a mode score of ≥4 in each aspect of both content and construct validity, categorized as valid; the practicality data collected from the questionnaire responses of the students yielded a percentage of 91.3%, categorized as highly practical. Similarly, the observation result of student activities achieved a percentage of 91.54%, also categorized as highly practical; The effectiveness data achieved a percentage of 88% for the shift from misconceptions to conceptual understanding, categorized as highly effective. According to the result regarding validity, practicality, and effectiveness, the interactive e-flipbook with conceptual change strategy is feasible to reduce student misconceptions in the topic of reaction rates, due to its compliance with the standards of validity, practicality, and effectiveness.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of producing appropriate guided inquiry-based e-modules to train students' critical thinking skills on the subject of reaction rates. Feasibility is reviewed based on validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This research used the Research and Development (R&D) method by Sugiyono to the product trial stage. Product trials were carried out on a limited basis with 15 class XI students at SMA Negeri 12 Surabaya. The following details the research results obtained, namely (1) the e-module validation results get mode 4 so that they are included in the good/valid category, (2) the average results of student response questionnaires get a percentage of 95% so that it is said to be very practical and the average results the average observation of student activity gets a percentage of 97% so it is said to be very practical, and (3) the posttest results for each component of critical thinking skills get a percentage of ≥ 81% so it is said to be very effective and the average n-gain score obtained is 0.86 which is included in the high category so that it can be said to be effective. Based on the results of the research obtained, it shows that guided inquiry-based e-modules are feasible for training students' critical thinking skills in the matter of reaction rates.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the profile of critical thinking skills of Phase F students at Al-Azhar Menganti High School in the chemistry subject of acid-base material. This research is a quantitative and qualitative descriptive research. Data collection techniques are questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The research was conducted at Al-Azhar Menganti High School with chemistry teachers and 37 students in class XII. The results showed that the profile of students' critical thinking skills was low in the category of less and very less with only 36.93% of students who were able to interpret; 17.12% analysis; 21.17% inference; 33.33% evaluation; and 36.04% explanation with the factors that caused the low critical thinking skills of students were inappropriate learning models and lack of learning tools that could facilitate in improving critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Limitations in students' critical thinking skills make it difficult to understand abstract concepts in the chemistry topic of reaction rates, even though critical thinking skills are essential in the twenty-first century. This study aims to develop an Augmented Reality (AR)-based Multimedia that is feasible to use to enhance students' critical thinking skills in the context of the reaction rate topic. Employing a Research & Development (R&D) approach based on the 4D model, the study involved 34 purposively selected twelfth-grade students from State Senior High School 1 Driyorejo. This study used questionnaires, observations, and tests, including validation sheets, student response questionnaires, pre-tests and post-tests, and observation sheets. AR multimedia obtained a mode of 5 in content validity, and construct validity is considered valid. Practicality was confirmed through a student response questionnaire, which scored 91.4%, categorised as practical, and supported by a 99.4% observation score of student activities. Effectiveness was demonstrated by a significant improvement in critical thinking skills, with an overall N-gain score of 0.73 (in the high category) and a Paired Sample T-test p-value of 0.001. Consequently, the developed AR-based multimedia is considered feasible, and teachers are recommended to use it, as it is practical and effective for improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Abstract

The understanding of molecular form materials requires a high level of visual spatial skills, but most high school students still show low visual intelligence since the content is abstract and there isn't any interactive digital media. The goal of this project is to enhance students' visual intelligence regarding the submaterial of molecular shapes by creating 3D-assisted e-worksheets that are integrated with the Think Pair Share (TPS) paradigm. The 4D model (define, design, develop) is used in this development research. involving 35 students in grades XI-3 of SMA Hang Tuah 1 Surabaya and three expert validators. Data was collected through validation sheets, response questionnaires, activity observation sheets, and visual intelligence pretest-posttests including four indicators: imagination, conception, problem solving, and pattern search. The results showed that the e-worksheets were declared valid with all ≥ 4 medians, practical with 96.43% student responses and 99.4% activity implementation, and effective according to the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test (Z = −5.165, p = 0.000) with an average increase of 56.90 points and all students experienced an increase in scores. The highest increase occurred in the pattern search indicator (64.24 percentage points). 3D-assisted electronic worksheets integrated with TPS have proven to be effective in bridging abstract molecular representations with students' visual intelligence, so they can be an alternative learning medium for abstract chemistry materials at the high school level.
