Abstract

The selection of an insulator as an electrical power insulation medium must have reliable specifications and be safe for workers. SF6 gas is the best choice as a highly efficient insulation medium because it is colorless, odorless, chemically inert, and does not easily mix with other substances. Its lifespan is long, which helps save costs. This research was conducted using three methods: literature method as a data collection method by reading theories and existing guidelines, observation method by directly observing objects in the field, and interview method as a data collection method by directly asking field supervisors. The data obtained from these three methods are then organized for the preparation of this research. SF6 gas is pumped into a cylinder located in the cubicle during the separation of contacts. When the circuit breaker lever is moved as a voltage breaker for SKTM cable, SF6 gas is compressed through a nozzle, and the gas flow generates an electric arc that occurs due to contact friction, which will be extinguished. The advantages of using SF6 gas are its ability to quickly and efficiently extinguish electric arcs, its low chemical reactivity, colorless and stable properties, and its long-lasting usage, which helps save investment costs.
