Abstract

This study aims to determine the preferences of the golden snail (Pomacea canaliculata L.). on several plants to determine alternative plants and host plants. This research was carried out in the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Nusa Cendana University, from March to May 2020. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replicates and five treatments, so there were 20 experimental units. The treatments tested were plant types as feed: K1: mustard greens, K2: water spinach, K3: taro, K4: rice, and K5: water hyacinth. The initial weight of the feed was 50 g. The variables observed were the weight of the feed eaten every three days for two months and the development of the golden snail on each feed. The golden snail's development for each feed was observed in egg production, egg development, and longevity of the golden snail. Feed weight data were analyzed using variance followed by a 5% DMRT test. The golden snail's egg production, development, and longevity are presented in tables and described. The results showed that the feeding treatment of water spinach, mustard greens, taro, rice, and water hyacinth affected the eating preferences of the golden snail. Golden snail prefers to feed mustard greens than water spinach, taro, rice, and hyacinth. The golden snail produces eggs on water spinach and rice feed. The best golden snail reproduction was found on water spinach feed, which produces 1-3 groups of eggs, and the highest hatchability of golden snails was found on rice feed.

Abstract

Genep is a Balinese spice that is usually served for all Balinese dishes and is usually served in a wet form. Genep seasoning must be used until finished because it has a short shelf life. Genep seasoning is composed of turmeric, ginger, kencur, galangal, onion, garlic, pepper, coriander, candlenut, nutmeg, chili, shrimp paste, and salt. The content of bioactive compounds derived from the ingredients used makes genep seasonings susceptible to oxidation processes that result in decreased quality and shelf life of genep seasonings. This must be prevented by applying technologies such as encapsulation to increase the weakness of seasonings in the wet form. Genep seasoning is extracted to look for useful bioactive compounds and then encapsulated to maintain product quality. This study used concentration of Tween 80 as an emulsifier including 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. The best genep seasoning extract obtained from the best treatment was encapsulated using maltodextrin and the addition of tween 80 as a treatment that significantly affected yield, water content, solubility, color, and encapsulation efficiency. Encapsulation produces a brownish-yellow and bright product with a yield of 87,36%, a moisture content of 5.92% w / w, solubility of 94.23% w / k, brightness value (L *) 39.39, and an encapsulation efficiency of 83,83%. Tween 80 concentration is very influential on the characteristics of the even seasoning extract encapsulate where the higher Tween 80 concentration is able to increase yield, solubility, color brightness, encapsulation efficiency, and reduce water content.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The residents of Fatulan Village generally make a living as farmers of food crops and horticulture. Fatuulan's agricultural products are local potatoes, local garlic, shallots, red beans, carrots, Soe tangerines, and various vegetables such as mustard greens and long beans. This natural potential dramatically supports the development of the agricultural sector and the tourism industry, increasing village income and the community's economy. Agricultural products obtained are sold to traditional markets around Timor Tengah Selatan Regency (TTS), and Fatuulan is the leading supplier of horticultural commodities, especially local potatoes, shallots, and red beans. However, agricultural production is still relatively low. In general, the knowledge and skills of farmers in plant cultivation activities are still low, such as the insufficient knowledge of farmers about fertilizers and fertilization and the absence of pest and pathogen control. The main problems faced by partners are: (a) not knowing and utilizing organic fertilizers and relying on synthetic fertilizers, (b) not knowing about pests and pathogens that attack plants, their negative impacts, and pest and pathogen control techniques. This PKM activity aims to provide education and transfer technology to healthy plant cultivation methods using trichocompost organic fertilizer application, utilization of methyl eugenol as a fruit fly trap, and application of botanical pesticides to manage pests and plant diseases. This activity is expected to increase the knowledge and skills of farmers in plant cultivation and pest control on their farms. Keywords: Fatuulan Village, PKM, trichocompost fertilizer.

Abstract

The “Ora et Labora” Farmer Group in Naioni Village, Kupang City, has developed horticultural and livestock farming on a three-hectare area cultivating long beans, tomatoes, and chilli peppers using a drip irrigation system. Despite these advancements, farmers remain dependent on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, which over time damage soil structure, reduce fertility, and disrupt the balance of soil microorganisms. To address this issue, an organic farming system was introduced as an environmentally friendly alternative using tricho-compost based on Trichoderma spp. and Local Microorganisms (MOL). Tricho-compost improves nutrient availability and suppresses soil-borne pathogens, while MOL acts as a natural starter for organic matter fermentation and a potential biocontrol agent. This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to enhance farmers’ understanding and skills in producing and applying tricho-compost and MOL. The results demonstrated improved knowledge, technical ability, and motivation among farmers to independently implement organic farming, thereby promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly cultivation systems.
