Abstract

Surgical site infection (SSI) is one of the most common postoperative infections in hospitals, with a 14-16% percentage range. This study aims to determine the relationship between the rationality of antibiotics and surgical wound infections in post-laparotomy patients at Pabatu Hospital in 2022. This study used a cross-sectional design carried out at the Pabatu Hospital Medical Records Installation from February 2021 – January 2023. Samples were collected using a consecutive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test with a 95% Confidence Interval (α=0.05) and logistic regression analysis. From the ninety-six samples, 16 patients experienced ILO. The results of the bivariate analysis showed a relationship between the correct dosage of antibiotics, duration of antibiotic use, use of prophylactic antibiotics, the timing of antibiotics, type of surgery and wound care to surgical site infection. The final analysis using logistic regression showed that the use of prophylactic antibiotics (p 0,041, RP: 4,07; CI = 95%) was the variable that had the strongest association with SSI.
