Abstract

Insecticides are the most widely used type of pesticide in various fields, such as agriculture, plantation, industry, and household activities. Only 1% of the insecticides used work effectively to attack the target and the remaining 99% are released freely into water, soil, and air and finally have an impact on non-target organisms. Chlorpyrifos, carbofuran, and cypermethrin were the most widely used insecticides in their respective groups, namely, organophosphates, carbamates, and pyrethroids. This study aims to determine the changes in histopathological features of adolescent rat livers due to subchronic exposure to chlorpyrifos, carbofuran, and cypermethrin. Adolescent livers have a faster regeneration rate but are more susceptible to damage than the older age group. This study used 30 male Wistar rats which were divided into 5 groups, namely, normal group (N), control group (K), chlorpyrifos group (P1), carbofuran group (P2), and cypermethrin group (P3). Subcutaneous injection of insecticide was carried out for 21 days. The scoring method used in the histopathological observations is Manja Roenigk score. Data analysis used the ANOVA test and continued with the LSD post hoc test. In this study, significant results were obtained, P<0.05, which indicated that there were significant differences in the histopathological features of the liver that were exposed to chlorpyrifos, carbofuran, and cypermethrin. The picture of liver damage was mostly found in the carbofuran group.

Abstract

Introduction: The risk of preeclampsia increases due to COVID-19. COVID-19 was the leading cause of Indonesia's high maternal mortality rate in 2021, with 2,982 cases. COVID-19 cases affected the maternal mortality rate in East Java, reaching 234.7 per 100,000 live births. Jember ranks first with the highest number of deaths of pregnant women in East Java. This study aimed to examine the relationship between the severity of COVID-19 and the degree of preeclampsia at Dr. Soebandi Hospital, Jember. Methods: This was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. This study was conducted from March to April 2023. A total of 27 samples of pregnant women with COVID-19 were taken using the total sampling method in 2020-2022 at Dr. Soebandi Hospital, Jember, and analyzed using SPSS with the Spearman statistical test. Results: This study found that pregnant women with mild cases of COVID-19 were 9 cases, 16 cases were moderate, and 2 cases were severe. There were 15 cases of pregnant women with no preeclampsia and 12 cases with severe preeclampsia. Conclusion: There was no relationship between the severity of COVID-19 and the degree of preeclampsia at Dr. Soebandi Hospital, Jember.

Abstract

Hypertension has a high prevalence of patients in the world, as well as in Mumbulsari Jember District. This is due to many risk factors for the incidence of hypertension and doesn’t cause significant symptoms. Psychological stress is one of the factors causing hypertension. Work, economic, and social problems are triggers for stress. This is experienced by farm laborers with complex problems that cause psychological stress conditions. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a correlation between stress and increased blood pressure in hypertensive farm laborers in the Mumbulsari Jember Health Center Working Area. This research is an analytic observational research with cross sectional study design. The sampling method was convenience sampling. The data used were primary data (Self Reporting Questionnaire 20 (SRQ-20)) and secondary data (medical records of patients in Puskesmas Mumbulsari Jember). The results of this study showed normal psychology, namely in 11 respondents (42.3%) experiencing stage 1 hypertension conditions and 15 respondents (57.7%) experiencing stage 2 hypertension. SRQ-20 results identified mental distress, namely 23 respondents (60.5%) experienced stage 1 hypertension and 15 respondents (39.5%) experienced stage 2 hypertension. The results of the analysis showed there was no significant correlation between stress and increased blood pressure in hypertensive farm laborers in the working area of the Mumbulsari Jember Health Center with a ρ-value of 0.151 (ρ>0.05). This study concluded that there is no correlation between stress and increased blood pressure in hypertensive farm laborers in the Mumbulsari Jember Health Center Working Area. Abstract
