Abstract

This study aimed to determine the type, composition and density of mesodebris based on seasonal differences (periods I and II). Sampling was conducted using the purposive sampling method. There were 5 lanes of transects randomised to determine the sub-transect box. Mesodebris samples were taken by excavating surface sediments (± 3 cm) and filtered with 0.5 cm x 0.5 cm size at Lamaru beach, Balikpapan City. All samples were collected, grouped and counted to determine the type, number, weight and density of mesodebris. The analysis results showed that 6 types of mesodebris were found in the study site such as plastic, plastic foam, glass, cloth, wood and rubber. The highest mesodebris composition for the number category was plastic (80%) in period II, while the highest weight composition was found in period I at 51%. The density of mesodebris with the most number category was found in period II (1.64 amount/m2). From the results of the study it can be concluded that there was no significant difference in the mesodebris density between periods I and II at Lamaru Tourism Beach, Balikpapan City. The main sources of mesodebris in the study area come from tourist activities, local residents' activities on land, and water runoff from the Manggar River. Abstract

Mikroplastik berasal dari makroplastik yang terdegradasi dengan ukuran < 5 mm, sehingga dapat tertelan oleh biota perairan salah satunya ikan Bawis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tipe mikroplastik dan korelasi antara ukuran ikan dengan kelimpahan mikroplastik pada saluran pencernaan ikan Bawis. Total 45 ekor sampel ikan Bawis dikumpulkan pada bulan Januari 2024 dari hasil tangkapan nelayan di Perairan Bontang Kuala. Analisis laboratorium diawali dengan mengukur panjang (cm) dan berat (gr) ikan, melakukan pembedahan saluran pencernaan, destruksi bahan organik dan mengidentifikasi mikroplastik menggunakan mikroskop. Destruksi bahan organik dilakukan dengan menambahkan NaCl jenuh, KOH 22% dan H2O2 30% pada saluran pencernaan yang sebelumnya telah dikeringkan. Tiga tipe mikroplastik ditemukan di seluruh sampel saluran pencernaan yang didominasi tipe fragmen (44%), fiber (44%), dan film (12%). Diantara tipe mikroplastik, fragmen merupakan tipe mikroplastik dengan kelimpahan tertinggi yaitu (3,53 partikel/individu). Warna mikroplastik yang paling melimpah adalah hitam (64%). Ditemukan hubungan yang sedang dan signifikan (p<0,05) antara panjang dan berat ikan terhadap kelimpahan mikroplastik pada pencernaan ikan Bawis.

Abstract

The spotted scat (Scatophagus argus) is a nutrition source in the waters of Muara Pantuan, Mahakam Delta. However, anthropogenic activities from land have caused Lead (Pb) contamination in these waters, which has the potential to accumulate in fish. The purpose of this study was to determine Pb concentrations in various tissues of the spotted scat and analyze the associated human health risks from its consumption. A total of 8 fish samples were collected from Muara Pantuan waters with the assistance of local fishermen. Gill, digestive organ, and muscle tissues were digested using the acid digestion method, and Pb concentrations were analyzed using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) type iCE 3000. The results show the highest Pb concentration was found in the gills (0.04 ± 0.01 µg/g dry weight), while the lowest was in the digestive tract (0.03 ± 0.01 µg/g dry weight). The mean Pb concentration across all fish tissues ranged from 0.02 to 0.05 µg/g dry weight, which remains below the Indonesian National Agency of Drug and Food Control's (BPOM) standard of 0.20 µg/g. Correlation analysis between Pb and length (r = 0.80) and weight (r = 0.75) of the spotted scat showed a negative relationship with a strong correlation coefficient, but the relationship was not significant (p > 0.05). The Maximum Weekly Intake (MWI) calculation yielded the highest safe consumption limit for the adult group (43.8 kg/week), followed by adolescents (35.7 kg/week), and children (10.9 kg/week). Based on Pb concentration and health risk analysis, the spotted scat from Muara Pantuan waters is still considered fit and safe for human consumption.
