Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze students' items and abilities—the analysis for mapping test instruments and students' basic concepts regarding optics subjects before lectures are held. The test participants were 35 physics students. The analysis model of item response theory is a one-parameter logistic model or Rasch Model with the scope of analysis of the level of item difficulty, student ability, and statements that fit the item response model. Analysis of item responses and student responses carried out using Winstep version 3.73 software. The results of the qualitative analysis of the test items consisted of memory (C1) analysis (C4). The quantitative analysis using the Rasch model showed that 35% of the total items were difficult category items. For the suitability of test items in the instrument by 85% of items fit or generally function in measurement, more than 57% of students have the geometric optical ability in logit values of 0 to 1. The results of item analysis and student ability become information for teachers to design courses such as method selection, project implementation strategies, and assessments are undertaken.

Abstract

This study aims to highlight the importance of visual representation skills in classroom practice, especially in classical mechanics physics, by discussing (1) free-body diagram representation, (2) resultant force system, (3) types and directions of quantities, (4) representation of results and units. This research was conducted on 30 students in second grade at Beringin Kupang High School. The research method was carried out experimentally using a special image representation test tool for classical mechanical materials. The research data were analyzed by descriptive method. The results showed that (1) more than 50% of students did not draw FBD before solving the problem, (2) the success rate of students in representing the resultant force system was the highest at 33%, (3) determining the type and direction of motion the success rate was 67%, and (4) representation results and units with a success rate of 40%. The results of this study become a reference for increasing the role of visual representation in learning physics.

Abstract

Pembatasan sosial yang merupakan dampak dari merebaknya virus covid 19 yang melanda negeri ini selama kurang lebih dua tahun memberikan dampak di dunia pendidikan. Kegiatan pembelajaran yang sebelumnya dilakukan secara langsung, di mana siswa dan guru melakukan interaksi pembelajaran dalam kelas, saat ini diubah secara daring menggunakan berbagai macam aplikasi-aplikasi komunikasi. Perubahan kegiatan pembelajaran ini, berpengaruh besar terhadap daya serap siswa terhadap ilmu yang diberikan. Pada mata pelajaran IPA dalam hal ini Fisika, siswa cukup merasa kesulitan dalam memahami beberapa konsep fisis dari suatau topik materi serta menerapkan konsep tersebut dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal Fisika. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan memberikan bantuan belajar bagi siswa/siswi SMP yang mengalami kendala belajar Fisika selama pandemi. Pembelajaran Fisika di sekolah dilaksanakan secara daring melalui zoom maupun google meet. Para siswa mengalami kendala dalam memahami materi Fisika yang sifatnya abstrak yang memerlukan praktik langsung agar memahami konsep yang dipelajari. Bantuan belajar diberikan sebanyak 10 kali yang terdiri ataspenjelasan materi dan praktikum Fisika. Siswa yang mengikuti kegiatan ini berjumlah lima orang yang tempat tinggalnya saling berdekatan. Kegiatan ini diawali dengan pemberian kuesioner untuk mengetahui kesulitan belajar yang dialami, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan penjelasan materi Fisika dan kegiatan praktikum. Pada akhir kegiatan, siswa diberikan tes dalam bentuk uraian untuk melihat sejauh mana pemahaman mereka terhadap materi dan praktikum Fisika yang diberikan.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk melihat peningkatan pemahaman konsep. Kegiatan perkuliahan yang dilakukan guna meningkatkan pemahaman konsep mahasiswa adalah pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing menggunakan strategi scaffolding. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif, di mana melalui penelitian dijabarkan terkait peningkatan pemahaman konsep mahasiswa setelah diberikan perlakukan berupa kegiatan perkuliahan yang menerapkan inkuiri terbimbing berbasis scaffolding. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik tes dengan instrumen berupa soal uraian. Hasil jawaban siswa kemudian diperiksa disesuaikan dengan rubrik penilaian berupa skor tiap soal yang telah dibuat. Soal uraian yang diberikan berjumlah lima soal terkait materi Hukum Newton dan Aplikasinya. Tes dilakukan dua kali yakni pada awal untuk melihat sejauh mana pemahaman konsep mahasiswa dan pada akhir proses perkuliahan guna melihat peningkatan pemahaman konsep mahasiswa setelah mengikuti proses perkuliahan. Hasil tes awal dan tes akhir yang diperoleh, dianalisis menggunakan uji n-Gain guna melihat peningkatan pemahaman konsep. Hasil uji n-Gain menunjukkan bahwa secara rata-rata peningkatan pemahaman konsep mahasiswa pada materi Hukum Newton dan Aplikasinya adalah 0,55 berada pada kategori sedang. Kata-kata kunci: pemahaman konsep, inkuiri terbimbing, strategi scaffolding, n-gain Abstract This research was conducted with the aim to see an increase in understanding of concepts. The lecture activities undertaken to improve the understanding of student concepts are guided inquiry learning using scaffolding strategies. Guided inquiry learning is one of the learning models that emphasizes the active activities of students to find their own concepts or solve problems given by teachers or lecturers. The process of finding and solving problems carried out by students is certainly not entirely independent of the help of lecturers. Assistance provided by lecturers to students verbally and visually, these are some of the strategies in scaffolding assistance. Data collection in this study uses a test technique with the instrument in the form of question matter. The description given is five questions related to Newton's Law and Application. The test is carried out twice namely at the beginning to see the extent of understanding students 'concepts and at the end of the lecture process in order to see an increase in students' understanding of the concepts after attending the lecture process. The results of the initial test and the final test obtained were analyzed using the n-Gain test to see an increase in concept understanding. The n-Gain test results showed that on average the increase in students' understanding of the concept of Newton's Law and its Application was 0.55 in the medium category.
