Abstract

This research was aimed at identifying  the uses of disfemism on BBC Online news texts at the level of grammatical units and describing their backgrounds as well as analyzing their forms and qualities of translations, particularly from the aspect of acceptability in Indonesian language. The method used for analysis was content analysis with disfemism on BBC Online news texts as the object of analysis. The data were in the forms of linguistic units of the news texts containing disfemism. The data were then analyzed by using referential comparison technique with semantic and translation approach to understand the meanings of disfemism and pragmatic comparison for analyzing the backgrounds.The results show that the grammatical units of disfemism on BBC Online news texts were at the levels words, phrases, and clauses. In addition, no significant change of form was found in the translations.There were found 10 different reasons underlying the uses of disfemism on BBC Online news texts. Meanwhile, dealing with the acceptability, most of the translations of disfemism can be counted as acceptable

Abstract

In etnopedagogic-based drama learning by the students of English Study Program, the exploration of local wisdom values can be carried out among others by transforming folklores into play scripts in English. The transformed folklores can  then be performed on stages. In the process of transforming  a script from its hypogram, a supporting skill in the form of integration between creative writing and English as a Foreign Language Mastery (EFL) mastery is absolutely necessary. Therefore, it takes an interdisciplinary approach between those two domains of expertise to succeed the transformation process. This research employed descriptive-qualitative method with contextual grounded case study approach. It was aimed at describing the process of transformation of Banyumas folklore texts to English play scripts ranging from the intrinsic elements to the language aspects in the play. The findings showed that there were changes in the characters, settings, plots as well as the conflicts of the stories. Meanwhile, regarding the language used, there were found a number of grammatical mistakes in using possessive pronouns, verbs, word order, tenses, and diction.

Abstract

Penelitian keilmuan ini bertujuan untuk menilai kualitas terjemahan secara umum oleh para mahasiswa semester lima D3 Bahasa Inggris pada materi penerjemahan kalimat berita opini dalam mata kuliah Translation Indonesian-English for Specific Purposes dan mengidentifikasi masalah-masalah penerjemahan yang mereka hadapi selama kuliah secara daring. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan penerjemahan dan merupakan studi kasus terpancang bersifat kontekstual. Fokus penelitian berupa analisis terhadap data yang bersumber dari kalimat opini yang diterjemahkan oleh para mahasiswa semester lima D3 Bahasa Inggris pada materi penerjemahan kalimat berita opini dalam mata kuliah Translation Indonesian-English for Specific Purpose. Data tersebut berupa kalimat opini yang berbahasa sumber (BSu) Bahasa Indonesia sebagai teks sumber (TSu), sedangkan terjemahan kalimat opini tersebut sebagai teks sasaran (TSa), yang diterjemahkan ke dalam Bahasa sasaran (BSa) Bahasa Inggris. Kata kunci: penerjemahan, terjemahan, kualitas terjemahan, penilaian kualitas terjemahan This research aims to assess the quality of translation by fifth-semester English Vocational students on the material of translating opinion sentences in the course of Translation Indonesian-English for Specific Purposes  and identify translation problems they face during the online course. This research is descriptive qualitative with a translation approach and is a contextualized designed case study. The focus of the research is on the analysis of data sourced from opinion sentences translated by fifth-semester English Vocational students on the material of translating opinion sentences in the course of Translation Indonesian-English for Specific Purposes course. The data are opinion sentences in the source language (ST) of Indonesian as the source text (TT), while the translation of the opinion sentences as the target text (TT), which is translated into the target language (ST) of English.
