Abstract

In marriage, husband and wife together strive to realize the community of life and love in all its aspects and dimensions: personal-human and spiritualreligious dimensions. In order for such a fellowship to be attained more easily, the Church wants the people to choose a partner who is of the same faith, bearing in mind that faith has a very strong influence on the inner and outer unity of husband and wife, the education of children and the welfare of the family. Out of respect for other religions, recognition of the right of every person to marry (cf. Can. 219), and various social realities, it is possible in the Catholic Church to have mixed marriage (mixta religio) or interfaith marriage (disparitas cultus). After all, mixed marriages and interfaith marriages can be a problem that continues to arise, in the midst of a pluralistic society. A lot of young Catholics at some point in their lives have to face this problem and seek information and assistance to determine attitudes and make concrete choices that must be accounted for. Moreover, some mixed marriages and interfaith marriages ofen need assistance in the journey of their married life. Renewal of the Church's position and policy towards these problems is a Church concern that can provide relief to the people. However, with the existing policies and guidelines, personal problems are not automatically resolved. It is the duty of the pastors of souls to continue to develop the ministry of mixed marriage and interfaith marriage, so that Catholics counterparts in such marriages are still able to witness the power of God's word and assist their children to grow in the Catholic faith.

Abstract

The Catholic Church sees marriage as a living fellowship and an intimate love between a husband and a wife which is held by God and confirmed through His laws. As a consequence, a marriage institution is always a realization of God’s will that is concretely arranged by the ecclesiastical law. This point is confirmed by the Vatican Council II in Gaudium et Spes Constitution art. 48. From this point, the Code of Canon Law 1983, Cann. 1055 defines marriage as an agreement (feodus, consensus, covenant) between a man and a woman in order to establish a partnership of their whole life (totius vitae consortium). This view is different from the view of the Code of Canon Law 1917, Cann. 1012 which defines marriage as a contractus (a contract). Keeping in mind that marriage is a consensus, bonum coniugum (the good of the spouses) occupies an important, special, and equal place with the child’s birth and education. Husband or wife is a certain bonum and value which is cannot be used only as an object or instrument. In conclusion, the Vatican Council II and the Code of Canon Law 1983 immensely highlighted the personalistic and relational aspects of a marriage institution.

Abstract

Indulgences and the Jubilee Year hold a close connection within the traditions of the Catholic Church. The Jubilee Year is a special period in the Church's calendar, typically celebrated every 25 years, although the Pope may declare an extraordinary Jubilee for significant occasions. During the Jubilee Year, Catholics are invited to engage in repentance, spiritual renewal, and receive special indulgences. An indulgence itself is the remission of temporal punishment due to sins that have already been forgiven. By obtaining an indulgence, an individual may be freed from part or all of the punishment still owed in this world or in purgatory. Historically, the Jubilee Year has been a sacred time for receiving God's abundant grace, with the indulgences granted during this period serving to strengthen the faithful in their spiritual journey, emphasizing repentance and affirming their faith in God's mercy. In the upcoming Jubilee Year of 2025, as outlined in the Bull Spes Non Confundit, indulgences will once again play a significant role, encouraging the faithful to partake in the grace offered by the Church in an atmosphere of renewed faith.

Abstract

The term "parish" refers to a part of a diocese. According to the 1983 Code of Canon Law (CIC) canon 515, a parish is composed of the following essential elements for its existence: a congregation of Christian faithful, a place of worship where Christians can gather or be found, a territory or area, and a pastor responsible for the parish. Although parishes are generally territorial in nature, if it is considered beneficial, personal parishes may be established, which are determined on the basis of rite, language, nation of the Christian faithful of a particular territory, and also on other grounds (canon 518). In modern times, parishes no longer emphasize territorial areas, but rather emphasize parishes as the Church, the People of God.
