Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is a crucial measure for improving the health status of mothers and infants. However, exclusive breastfeeding coverage in many countries has yet to meet established targets. According to the 2021 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) report, approximately 43% of women over the age of 25 experienced breastfeeding difficulties due to breast engorgement. Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) data indicates that only 35.5% of infants under six months of age worldwide receive exclusive breastfeeding. The WHO has set a target for at least 50% of infants under six months to receive exclusive breastfeeding by 2025. One factor influencing breastfeeding success is the postpartum mother's knowledge regarding breast care. This study aimed to determine the relationship between postpartum mothers' knowledge of breast care and the smooth flow of breast milk at the Anggrek Care Unit of Lakipadada Regional General Hospital (RSUD). The study employed an analytical survey method (explanatory research) using a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional design. Accidental sampling was used to select 37 postpartum mothers as respondents. The analysis revealed a significant relationship between postpartum mothers' knowledge of breast care and the smooth flow of breast milk, indicated by a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that the better the postpartum mother's knowledge regarding breast care, the greater the likelihood of smooth breast milk flow at the Anggrek Care Unit of Lakipadada RSUD.
