Abstract

The study determined the predictive power of split-half attention and dual-processing in working memory on students’ learning outcome in Physics. The population for the study comprised 5138 science students in public senior secondary schools. The sample was 650 SSII students currently offering Physics as a school subject in 22 secondary schools in the study area. Three sets of instruments used for data collection were Attention Lapses Clicker (ALC), Force Concept Inventory (FCI) and Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT).  The instruments were face validated by three experts. Estimate of internal consistency was obtained through Kuder-Richardson (K-R21) for FCI with coefficient of internal consistency as 0.73. Data normalization was done using ZT-score and T-score. The data collected were analyzed using regression analysis to answer research questions and test null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. It was spotlighted that split-half attention as well as dual-processing in working memory had significant predictive power on students’ learning outcome in Physics. Similarly, the combination of split-half attention and dual-processing in working memory had significant predictive power on students’ learning outcome in Physics. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that Physics teachers should guide students to gain control of attention and action to facilitate and mandate encoding of stimulus into working memory for enhanced learning outcome in Physics. The information selected for students to be held in working memory should be relevant to current objectives of instructional delivery to reduce split-half attention effect and enhance learning outcome in Physics

Abstract

This study explores students' perspectives regarding using U-Dictionary in learning pronunciation. The research employed a quantitative approach, utilizing a survey research method. The sample consisted of 32 sixth-semester students majoring in English Education at University in Asia. The selection of participants was conducted through random sampling to ensure a representative sample. A questionnaire was developed as the research instrument to collect the necessary data. The questionnaire was designed to gauge students' perspectives regarding using U-Dictionary in pronunciation practice. It employed a Likert scale format and was administered to students in the English Teaching Department. This research revealed that students hold a highly positive perception of using U-Dictionary in pronunciation practice. The results indicate that U-Dictionary is perceived as an effective tool for enhancing pronunciation skills among students. These findings provide valuable insights into the students' perspectives and highlight the potential benefits of incorporating U-Dictionary into language learning environments.

Abstract

Background. Elderly is the population aged 60 years or more. Lasnia is a condition that takes place in human life. The elderly will experience some setbacks both physically, psychologically, and cognitively. One way to maintain the psychological function of the elderly to remain stable is by doing occupational therapy which has the aim of increasing the ability of the elderly to produce a product of art so that it fills the spare time for the elderly. Purpose. This quantitative study aimed to Free time that is not used will cause boredom and boredom in the elderly. So making piggy bank skills from used bottles is one of the occupational therapies that will be taught to the elderly to reduce the level of stress and boredom experienced by the elderly living in an orphanage. Method. This activity was carried out on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Budi Social Foundation for the Elderly, which was attended by 17 elderly people. The activity is carried out by making piggy bank crafts using used bottles. Results. The implementation of the activity consists of four stages, namely the identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The results of the evaluation of this activity show that the elderly can produce works of art and make piggy bank creations using used bottles. Conclusion. The elderly looked happy and enthusiastic when they took part in the activities carried out by the Nursing Profession students at Awal Bros University.
