Abstract

Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a condition that arises due to narrowing of the coronary arteries, which can be caused by atherosclerosis, spasm, or a combination of both. One procedure often performed to treat coronary artery narrowing is Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). Previous research has focused more on its clinical effectiveness, while research analyzing the initial response of patients during Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) is still limited. This study applies a qualitative method with a descriptive phenomenological approach. Participants were selected through purposive sampling technique, and data were collected through in-depth interviews involving four coronary heart disease patients undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) for the first time at Indriati Hospital, Solo Baru. The study findings revealed three main themes: emotional responses indicated by feelings of fear, cognitive responses indicated by hope for recovery, and patient responses indicated by the importance of family support. The implications of this study indicate that nurses play a crucial role in providing comprehensive education, therapeutic communication, and psychological support to patients undergoing heart stenting. This approach can help reduce anxiety, increase patient readiness, and support the success of the treatment process.
