Abstract

Bibliolatry tradition refers to the tendency of excessive worship or reverence towards the Bible in specific religious or belief contexts. This tradition can have negative impacts such as religious fanaticism, intolerance, and a lack of balanced understanding of spiritual values. To address the issue of bibliolatry tradition, an effective pastoral counseling strategy is needed. This research aims to explore pastoral counseling strategies that can assist individuals in overcoming bibliolatry tradition. The strategies involve an existential approach emphasizing the search for meaning, personal autonomy and responsibility, openness to freedom and possibilities, as well as presence and empathy. Through the existential approach, individuals can develop a broader understanding and balance in interpreting the Bible and religious traditions. Pastoral counseling strategies will also help individuals understand that the Bible is not an object of rigid and absolute worship but a divine revelation that requires contextual understanding and guidance from the Holy Spirit. Pastoral experts in this strategy will provide the necessary emotional and spiritual support to address issues related to bibliolatry. They will also assist individuals in developing a closer relationship with God and understanding the importance of maintaining a balanced approach to the worship of the Bible. By implementing effective pastoral counseling strategies, individuals can overcome the negative impacts of bibliolatry tradition and develop a balanced understanding of the Bible, healthy spiritual growth, and a meaningful pursuit of life's meaning. This strategy will promote a broader contextual understanding, fulfillment of individual needs, as well as freedom and spiritual growth.
