Abstract

Asmin Tropical Rain Forest Conservation 2 is a tropical natural forest which is a conservation area of PT Asmin Bronang Kapuas, Central Kalimantan. The designation of new areas was carried out in 2018 and there was no research in the area that required data collection on the types of constituents of the area. The purposes of this research were to determine species composition, species diversity index, species evenness index, species richness index, and species dominance index. The method used in this study was collecting data on plants in area of 54.6 hectares with a sampling intensity of 1% using the Uniform Systematic Distribution Sampling with Random Start pattern. There are   14 plots in the form of nested samples with designations for 4 levels of plants (seedlings, saplings, poles, and trees). Results of the research showed that vegetation species composition was dominated by Shorea smithiana (Mahambung) of the Dipterocarpaceae family. Shorea parvifolia (Red Meranti), Euzyderoxylon zwageri (Ulin), Shorea smithiana (Mahambung), Mezzetia parviflora (Pisang-pisang), Syzygium spp. (Jambu-jambu), and Memecylon sumatrense (Kamasulan) are the 6 species that have the best regeneration rate, which are found at all plant levels. The highest IVI was Shorea smithiana (Mahambung) at the seedling was 46.55, pole 55.68, and tree 32.02 levels. At the sapling level, the highest IVI was Baccaurea bracteata Muell (Rambai forest) was 28.76. The species diversity index from seedling to pole level was moderate. At the tree level, the species diversity index was high (3.23). Species evenness index from seedling to tree level including height (0.82-0.92). The species richness index from seedling to pole was moderate. At the tree level, the species diversity index was high (7.45). The species dominance index of all levels was included in the low category (0.05-0.15).

Abstract

One problem of cultivation of Falcataria mollucana seedlings in nursery is attack of Pseudococcus calceolariae pest. Attack of that pests cause the growth of seedlings hampered and finally cause death seedlings. Several plants founded in the field, for examples Swietenia macrophylla, Azadirachta indica, Morinda citrifolia and Carica papaya have bioactive compounds that can be used as botanical pesticide. The purpose of this research is to know type of leaf extract against effectivity of P. calceolariae pest control to F. mollucana seedlings based on decrease of incidence and severity  against P. calceolariae attack. Results of the research showed that leaf extract of  S. macrophylla, A. indica, M. citrifolia and C. papaya were effective to control P. calceolariae pest  at F. mollucana seedlings. A. indica leaf extract gived decrease of incidence and severity against P. calceolariae attack higher than others leaf extract. i.e 80,13% and 57,69%.

Abstract

Nursery Department is the department responsible for ensuring the success of Acacia crassicarpa plants in the early stages before being planted in the planting area. One of the challenges faced by the Nursery Department is the attack of Thrips sp. pests which greatly threaten the quality and quantity of seedling production. Therefore, it is necessary to test the effect of entomopathogen Metarhizium sp. and Beauveria bassiana in overcoming Thrips sp. pest attacks. This research aims to determine the effect of using entomopathogen, both Metarhizium sp. and Beauveria bassiana, in overcoming the severity of Thrips sp. pest attacks and to find out whether it is true that Thrips sp. found dead are actually infected by entomopathogen. This research was carried out using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) method with a further test of the Least Significant Difference (LSD) follow-up test. The number of treatments in this study consisted of 6 treatments where each treatment was repeated 3 times. The parameters observed were the severity of Thrips sp. pest attacks and the percentage of Thrips sp. pests found dead infected by entomopathogens. The results of the study showed that entomopathogens, both Metarhizium sp. and Beauveria bassiana, showed a very significant effect on controlling the severity of Thrips sp. pest attacks. And Thrips sp. that were found dead were also proven to have died due to being infected by the entomopathogens Metarhizium sp. and Beauveria bassiana.
