Abstract

Seiring dengan berkembangnya teknologi, laser dan intense pulsed light (IPL) menjadi pilihan modalitas terapi hiperpigmentasi. Kedalaman penetrasi sinar laser meningkat seiring meningkatnya panjang gelombang. With the rapid evolution of technology, laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) have become one of the modalities of choice for hyperpigmentation therapy. The depth of laser beam penetration increases with increasing wavelength. Laser and IPL with short wavelength are effective to treat superficial hyperpigmentations. While dermal and mixed type hyperpigmentations have better response towards lasers with longer wavelength. Accurate laser parameter choice and good pre and post procedural preparations reduce the risk of side effects.

Abstract

The incidence of sexually transmitted infections in man who have sex with man (MSM) is increased among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients. HIV and syphilis are two sexually transmitted diseases that frequently interact and modify the symptoms and signs of the disease. A case of a 27-year-old male with generalized multiple erythematous plaques including palms and soles since 4 days ago was reported. The patient has been diagnosed with HIV since 2017. The patient is sexually active with a male sex partner and rarely uses condoms. Diagnosis of syphilis is made based on anamnesis, physical examination, and laboratory tests. The treatment was benzathine penicillin G 2.4 million units in 3 doses. The combination of HIV and syphilis needs longer therapy and requires serological follow-up for up to 24 months.

Abstract

Chronic psychological stress has emerged as a significant but often overlooked factor contributing to premature skin aging. Beyond its well-known systemic effects, sustained stress disrupts the delicate neuroendocrine–immune balance that maintains skin homeostasis. Elevated cortisol and catecholamine levels impair collagen synthesis, increase oxidative stress, and compromise epidermal barrier integrity, thereby accelerating wrinkle formation, dehydration, and loss of elasticity. Moreover, psychoneuroimmunologic pathways involving the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis and sympathetic activation induce chronic low-grade inflammation and telomere shortening, further promoting cellular senescence in dermal fibroblasts. This review synthesizes evidence from dermatologic, neuroscientific, and psychosomatic research to elucidate the mechanisms linking chronic stress and skin aging. Mind–body interventions such as mindfulness, yoga, and cognitive-behavioral therapy have shown potential to modulate cortisol levels and improve skin parameters, highlighting the clinical value of integrative psychodermatology. Understanding this mind–skin connection may inform novel strategies for both aesthetic and therapeutic dermatology by addressing psychological well-being as a core determinant of cutaneous youth and resilience.
