This qualitative research explores the understanding of santri (students) regarding Quranic verses as prayers within Hizib Nahdlatul Wathan and its implications for children's education in daily life. The study is conducted at the Islamic Center NW Tanjung Riau Batam Boarding School. Through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, the study examines how santri comprehend and apply Quranic verses as prayers within Hizib Nahdlatul Wathan and the subsequent impact on children's education. The findings reveal that santri exhibit a profound understanding of Quranic verses as prayers within Hizib Nahdlatul Wathan. They perceive these verses not only as supplications for blessings and protection but also as a means to strengthen their spiritual connection with Allah. This understanding influences their behavior, attitudes, and decision-making in their daily lives. The implications for children's education are extensive, including the cultivation of moral awareness, empathy, and resilience. The integration of Quranic teachings contributes to the holistic development of children, enabling them to embody Islamic values and principles in their interactions and choices. This research contributes to the broader understanding of the role of religious teachings in shaping character, ethics, and values among young learners. It underscores the significance of incorporating Quranic teachings into educational practices to nurture individuals who are both knowledgeable and morally grounded. Ultimately, this study emphasizes the potential of religious education to create well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to society while remaining steadfast in their faith.

Abstract

Marriage is a sacred institution in Islam aimed at building a family based on sakinah, mawaddah, wa rahmah (tranquility, love, and mercy). However, the high divorce rates in various Muslim countries indicate issues in couples’ preparedness for married life. Pre-marital education serves as a crucial instrument in providing prospective spouses with an understanding of their rights, obligations, and conflict resolution in the family according to Islamic law. This study aims to analyze the role of pre-marital education in preventing divorce and its effectiveness in strengthening family resilience. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data collection techniques include literature studies, interviews with Islamic family law experts and pre-marital education providers, and document analysis of relevant policies. Data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.  The study results show that pre-marital education plays a significant role in enhancing couples’ understanding of effective communication, conflict management, and psychological and financial aspects of marriage. This program also contributes to raising awareness of the importance of commitment in marriage based on Islamic values. The study concludes that pre-marital education is an effective preventive measure in reducing divorce rates. Its implications suggest that governments and religious institutions should develop a more comprehensive and need-based pre-marital education curriculum for Muslim couples.

Abstract

Critical thinking is a core 21st-century skill that must be developed through effective learning processes, particularly in Islamic Education (PAI). This study aims to describe the efforts of PAI teachers in optimizing students’ critical thinking skills at SMP Negeri 1 Aikmel. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were obtained through classroom observations, interviews with PAI teachers, and documentation analysis of learning instruments. The findings show that PAI teachers employ various strategies—such as group discussions, case studies, and reflective questioning—to encourage students’ critical thinking. These efforts are supported by teachers’ readiness in designing contextual learning models, though challenged by limited instructional time and differences in student motivation. It is concluded that the structured and purposeful strategies of PAI teachers play a significant role in fostering students’ critical thinking, yet further support from educational stakeholders is still needed.
