Abstract

The Al-Farra Commentary is the oldest and first commentary in the history of exegesis, and its manuscript has survived to the present day. Its presence has been a source of inspiration for commentators who lived after him. From a content perspective, the commentary has its own uniqueness. The purpose of this writing is to reveal the uniqueness of the Al-Farra exegesis methodology entitled "ma’?n? al-Qur?n" (Meanings of the Quran). This writing is a type of literature research using descriptive analysis methods. The main source of the research is the Al-Farra commentary known as "ma’?n? al-Qur’?n," and supplementary sources include books, publications, and journal articles that are still relevant to the study's theme. The results of this research reveal that the Al-Farra commentary was written in response to a request from his colleagues. The method he used is the tahl?l? method, drawing references from the Quranic verses, Prophet's hadiths, the opinions of companions, and mostly incorporating the thoughts of linguistically adept scholars of his time and the preceding era. The predominant style is linguistic, particularly focusing on syntactic analysis, which is spread throughout every verse. The uniqueness of the Al-Farra commentary lies in its inclination to concentrate only on verses or sentences considered difficult from a grammatical perspective, providing more in-depth analysis of their linguistic aspects.

Abstract

Muhammad Abduh is a modern mufassir whose thoughts are widely studied by scholars, one of which is about the verse of jihad. Abduh's ideas about the interpretation of the verse of jihad have inspired the birth of new thoughts that are more accommodating to the times. The purpose of this paper is to explore Abduh's thoughts on jihad in the Qur'an; implement and analyze the challenges of Abduh's jihad interpretation for modern Indonesian society; and analyze the positive and negative impacts of the implementation offer. The method used is library research with a content analysis approach. The results revealed that Abduh understood jihad was not limited to military and war aspects, spiritual, moral, social, and educational struggles also included the meaning of jihad. Jihad is also understood as a continuous effort to improve oneself and society, uphold justice, and advance science and social reform; the implementation of Abduh's meaning of Jihad is very relevant and in line with the needs of a plural and dynamic Indonesian society. By integrating education, dialog, and active involvement from all components of society, it can encourage the creation of a more just, peaceful, and advanced society. The challenge is that there is resistance and rejection from traditional circles that hold fast to old thinking; the positive impact of Abduh's thinking is to encourage the constructive contribution of Muslims in various aspects of life and inspire a peaceful and progressive renewal movement. Meanwhile, the negative impact is the potential for internal conflict, because his offer of thought will face the traditionalist thinking adopted by most Indonesians.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the various forms of communication of da'wah bi al-Lisān in the Koran. This article is based on a literature review or library research, using qualitative methods. The analytical approach used is content analysis and is described using descriptive analysis methods. The research results show that there are five types of bi al-Lisān da'wah communication contained in the Al-Qur'an. The five types of da'wah communication are communicating with correct words (qaulan sadīdan), communicating with eloquent words (qaulan balīghan), communicating with noble words (qaulan karīman), communicating with easy words (qaulan maisūran) and communicating with good words. gentle (qaulan layyinan). All of these communication patterns can be implemented in everyday communication according to the context, conditions and interlocutor. This research is limited to studying various types of communication from an Al-Qur'an perspective, so future research needs to perfect this study by discussing effective communication in an educational environment from an Al-Qur'an perspective through more comprehensive methods and approaches.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to identify the epistemological roots of environmental degradation, analyze Scientia Sacra as an alternative paradigm of knowledge, and explore its relevance for developing an environmental Qur’anic interpretation paradigm. Methodology – This qualitative study employs library research with a philosophical-hermeneutical approach. Primary data are drawn from Nasr’s major works, while secondary data consist of relevant scholarly literature on ecological philosophy, Islamic ecotheology, and environmental tafsir. The data are analyzed through qualitative content and conceptual analysis, with Thomas Kuhn’s paradigm theory used heuristically as an analytical framework. Findings – The study finds that the ecological crisis is rooted in the desacralization of knowledge and nature produced by secular, materialistic, and anthropocentric epistemologies. Scientia Sacra offers an alternative framework that integrates revelation, spiritual intellect, metaphysical knowledge, and tawḥīd. This framework provides an epistemological foundation for environmental tafsir by repositioning nature as a sacred manifestation of Divine signs. Research implications/limitations – The study suggests that Islamic environmental education and ecological literacy should integrate scientific and regulatory approaches with a tawḥīd-based understanding of nature. As a conceptual study, it does not test the proposed framework empirically or apply it systematically to specific ecological verses. Originality/novelty – The originality of this study lies in reconstructing Scientia Sacra not merely as an ecological philosophy, but as an epistemological foundation for environmental Qur’anic interpretation. Future research may operationalize this framework through verse-based exegesis and empirical studies of ecological attitudes and practices in Muslim communities.
