Abstract

Tempurung biji karet merupakan limbah yang belum banyak dimanfaatkan. Salah satu upaya untuk meningkatkan nilai ekonomi tempurung biji karet adalah diproses menjadi carbon black. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik dari karbon dan mengolah tempurung biji karet menjadi carbon black berbasis nanoserbuk menggunakan High Energy Milling (HEM). Carbon black dibuat melalui proses karbonisasi dan aktivasi dengan larutan H3PO4, kemudian karbon dilakukan penghalusan menggunakan HEM. Untuk mengetahui kualitas karbon, karakteristik karbon aktif diuji kadar air, kadar abu, kadar zat menguap dan kadar karbon terikat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik arang aktif memenuhi standar SNI 06-3730-1995 yaitu kadar air (2,5%), kadar abu (3,5%), kadar zat menguap (23,5%) dan kadar karbon terikat (73%).Rubber seed shell is a waste that has not been widely utilized. One effort to increase the economic value of rubber seed shell is processed into carbon black. This study aims to determine the characteristics of carbon and treat rubber seed shell into carbon black based nano powder  using High Energy Milling (HEM). Carbon black is made through carbonization and activation process with H3PO4 solution, then carbon is smoothing using HEM. To determine the carbon quality, the characteristics of activated carbon are tested for moisture content, ash content, volatile substance and bound carbon content. The results showed that the characteristics of activated charcoal fulfilled SNI 06-3730-1995 standard were moisture content (2.5%), ash content (3.5%), vapor content (23.5%) and bound carbon content (73% ).
