Abstract

This study was conducted because students’ basic sepak takraw technical skills were still relatively low, particularly in sepak sila, heading, serving, and smashing techniques. In addition, the training methods applied during practice sessions were considered less varied, causing students to become less motivated and easily bored during training activities. This study aimed to determine the effect of circuit training on improving the basic sepak takraw technical skills of students at SMA Negeri 19 Makassar. The research employed an experimental method using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 36 students selected using the total sampling technique. Data were collected through basic sepak takraw skill tests covering sepak sila, heading, serving, and smash techniques. Data analysis techniques included descriptive statistics, Shapiro–Wilk normality test, homogeneity test, t-test, and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed that circuit training was effective in improving students’ basic sepak takraw technical skills. In the sepak sila technique, the mean score increased from 24.67 to 32.96 with a significance value of 0.000. The heading technique improved from a mean score of 18.06 to 25.67 with a significance value of 0.000. The serving technique increased from 36.33 to 43.42 with an Asymp. Sig. value of <0.001. Similarly, the smash technique improved from 36.33 to 43.42 with an Asymp. Sig. value of <0.001. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that circuit training is effective in improving the basic sepak takraw technical skills of students at SMA Negeri 19 Makassar.
