Abstract

The study aims to analyze the effects of butterfly hug therapy on anxiety levels through a systematic review of relevant studies. Journal searches were conducted using Semantic Scholar and Google Scholar, focusing on articles published between 2020 and 2024 in English and Indonesian. Inclusion criteria required full-text accessibility in PDF format, with keywords combining "Anxiety OR Anxiety Disorder" AND "Butterfly hug OR Butterfly hug Therapy" applied consistently across databases. After screening, eight studies met the criteria and were systematically reviewed.  Butterfly hug therapy is identified as a simple, cost-effective, and accessible intervention that significantly reduces anxiety levels across various populations. The included studies highlighted its efficacy in managing anxiety caused by medical stress, academic challenges, and other stressors. By integrating rhythmic, bilateral physical stimulation, butterfly hug therapy helps individuals achieve emotional regulation and a sense of comfort, making it a versatile tool for anxiety management.  This review concludes that butterfly hug therapy is a promising non-pharmacological intervention for reducing anxiety, emphasizing its potential for broader application in clinical and community settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent type of arthritis, particularly among the elderly, and is a leading cause of disability in older adults. Reduced physical activity in OA patients often results in psychological disturbances when visiting healthcare facilities, contributing to a significant burden on healthcare services and diminishing individual quality of life. Objective: This study aims to analyze the literature on the effectiveness of hydrotherapy and land-based physical exercise in addressing osteoarthritis (OA) symptoms. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using the PubMed, Semantic Scholar, and OpenAlexa databases up to December 2024. Keywords included "Osteoarthritis OR OA," "Hydrotherapy OR Aquatic Therapy OR Foot Soak," and "Exercise OR Physical Therapy”. Results: A total of eight studies met the inclusion criteria, comprising six randomized controlled trials and two quasi-experimental studies. The findings indicate that hydrotherapy significantly reduces pain, improves joint mobility, and enhances quality of life, particularly for patients with difficulty performing land-based activities. Moreover, land-based physical exercises are effective in improving joint function and overall physical performance. The combination of these approaches may provide an optimal solution for OA management, addressing both physical and psychological challenges faced by patients. Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of incorporating hydrotherapy into OA treatment protocols to improve patient outcomes and quality of care.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Diabetic ulcers are chronic complications of diabetes mellitus that can lead to infection and gangrene if not properly treated. Complementary therapies can help prevent diabetic ulcers by improving blood circulation and maintaining vasodilation. Preventive measures include massage, foot massage, and the application of warm blankets to support smooth blood flow.   Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a combination of massage, foot massage, and warm blankets on changes in the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) as a marker of diabetic ulcer risk. Method: The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. A total of 30 respondents were selected using total sampling, with inclusion criteria being female diabetes mellitus patients diagnosed for more than a year, aged over 30 years, and free from leg ulcers. Pre-test ABI measurements were conducted on the second day of week 1. The intervention involved a 30-minute combination of massage, foot massage, and warm blankets, administered twice a week over three weeks. Post-test ABI data were collected at the sixth meeting in the third week.   Results: Before the intervention, the average ABI of respondents was 0.57, indicating a moderate risk. Following the intervention, the ABI improved to an average of 0.74, categorized as mild risk. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed a significant effect (p < 0.05) of the intervention on ABI changes. Conclusion: In conclusion, the combination of massage, foot massage, and warm blankets is an effective complementary therapy for maintaining foot health in diabetes mellitus patients, thereby reducing the risk of diabetic ulcers.
