Abstract

This article examines the culture of Sekaten in the palace of Yogyakarta. Sekaten derived from the word Syahadatain is a religious social phenomenon created by Sunan Kalijaga as a means of spreading Islam in the land of Java. The focus of the study of this article is to examine the reception of the Qur'an in the Sekaten culture. this article is the result of research using cultural acculturation approach. From the analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that Sekaten is a religious social phenomenon that was created as a da'wah strategy in grounding the values of the Qur'an. in order to ground the values of the Qur'an, Sekaten combines three important elements, namely religion, culture, and economy. The integration of these three elements is represented by three important symbols of civilization for the people of Yogyakarta and its surroundings, namely the triangle formed between the Yogyakarta Palace as the cultural center, the Great Mosque as the center of Religion, and Pringharjo Market as the economic center.

Abstract

In the classical Islamic legal tradition (fiqh), water is widely discussed from the point of view as an instrument for purification (thaharah) and also as a material consumed, either by humans or livestock. This seems to be inseparable from the existence of hadith texts that prohibit making water as a traded commodity contained in various hadith master books. This prohibition arises because water is considered a basic need that is not allowed to be owned by certain individuals or groups. In fact, nowadays, water has become a commodity that has a very high selling value. This can be seen from the proliferation of mineral water brands on the market. In the perspective of al-Syibị's hermeneutics, water is an emergency need for dharûriyyah which is something essential and must exist for the realization of human welfare, both spiritually and materially. However, within certain limits, the commodification of water can still be allowed on the condition that the water source is included in a private area, even if in an emergency, access to water must be granted to everyone. According to al-Syibị the main purpose of the provisions of religious law is for the benefit of humans, both in the present life (world) and the life to come (the hereafter). Therefore, the determination of the law contained in the texts of the Qur'an and Sunnah is always based on ta`lịl, both globally and in detail.

Abstract

Rasyịd Ridȧ merupakan salah seorang pembaharu yang paling berpengaruh, setelah Jamaluddin al-Afgani dan Muhammad Abduh, di kalangan muslim moderat. Secara umum, ide-ide pembaharuan Rasyịd Ridȧ merupakan proyek lanjutan tentang ide pembaharuan yang digagas oleh kedua gurunya tersebut. Proyek besar dari idenya adalah membangkitkan kembali keterpurukan yang dialami oleh umat Islam selama berabad-abad dalam berbagai bidang. Rasyịd Ridȧ merupakan salah seorang pemikir modern yang menjadi motor bagi pergerakan pembaharuan di dunia Islam. Salah satu hal yang menjadi sorotannya adalah banyaknya riwayat isrȧịliyyȧt yang berdar dalam tradisi keilmuan Islam. Riwayat isrȧịliyyȧt merupakan salah satu hal yang disorot oleh Rasyịd Ridȧ karena dianggap memiliki andil dalam terbentuknya mitos-mitos yang menyebar di masyarakat. Kisah dan tradisi yang bersumber dari agama Yahudi dan Nasrani ini banyak dijumpai dalam kitab-kitab hadis dan tafsir al-Qur`an, terutama berkaitan dengan kisah-kisah masa lampau. Artikel ini berusaha mengkaji pandangannya terhadap riwayat isrȧịliyyȧt yang ia tuangkan dalam tulisan-tulisannya, baik dalam Tafsir al-Manȧr maupun dalam artikelnya di Majalah al-Manȧr. Hasil kajian menyimpulkan bahwa Ridȧ menolak dengan tegas eksistensi isrȧịliyyȧt, baik dalam tradisi tafsir maupun hadis. Penolakannya terlihat dari kritikan yang banyak tujukan kepada tokoh-tokoh isrȧịliyyȧt, seperti Ka`b al-Akhbȧr dan Wahb ibn Munabbih, meskipun kedua tokoh tersebut dianggap siqat oleh para kritikus hadis.

Abstract

Surah Yâsîn is one of the most popular and recited among other surah of the Koran. In several communities, there is a ritual called Yâsînan. The Yâsînan ritual is a routine ritual performed by Muslim communities, both individually and in groups. The reading of Surah Yâsîn is also often done in commemorations of someone's death. This activity called a performative reception of Qur’an, especially surah Yâsîn, where qur’anic verses (Yâsîn) are accepted and used as a medium for certain rituals, regardless of its informative meaning. This article examine the performance of the surah Yâsîn which are contained ini hadith literatures, both canonical and non-canonical, that appeared up to the fifth century of the hijriah. From this research, there are several forms of performance related to surah Yâsîn. First, surah Yâsîn is recited at the death ritual. Second, surah Yâsîn also recited at certain times. Third, Surah Yâsîn is considered to be the heart of the Qur'an, so reading surah Yâsîn has a quality equivalent to reading the Qur'an several times. Fourth, surah Yâsîn is often used as a medicine for psychic ailments. And fifth, there is a recommendation for reading Yâsîn in certain prayer rituals.
