Abstract

Abstrak. Pendidikan vokasi saat ini tengah mendapat perhatian pemerintah, berbagai regulasi dan kebijakan diterbitkan untuk mendukung penguatan pendidikan vokasi. Tentunya hal ini harus mendapat dukungan dari internal pendidikan vokasi itu sendiri, salah satunya dari para pimpinan yang mengatur jalannya roda institusi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi gaya kepemimpinan pendidikan tinggi vokasi kemaritiman di abad 21 yang penuh dengan dinamika dan perubahan yang sangat cepat sehingga membutuhkan karakter pemimpin yang adaptif. Selain itu juga untuk menemukan celah pengembangan atau perbaikan yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan peran dan fungsi pimpinan pendidikan tinggi vokasi kemaritiman di masa kini dan mendatang. Metode penelitian ini adalah mixed methods dimana untuk tujuan penelitian pertama digunakan metode kuantitatif, sedangkan untuk tujuan penelitian kedua digunakan metode kualitatif naratif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepemimpinan di pendidikan tinggi vokasi kemaritiman menggunakan tiga gaya kepemimpinan yakni karismatik (4,04), transformasional (4,42), dan transaksional (4,17). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa pimpinan pendidikan tinggi vokasi kemaritiman telah menggunakan kombinasi dari ketiga gaya kepemimpinan sehingga dapat menjawab tuntutan dari seluruh elemen yang ada di lembaga. Adapun yang masih harus terus ditingkatkan sebagai pimpinan pendidikan tinggi vokasi kemaritiman adalah: memahami regulasi yang berlaku dengan baik; kompeten dan cakap menjadi pimpinan meski usia masih muda; mampu menjadi teladan; mengayomi seluruh civitas akademika dan memperjuangkan hak bawahan meski harus berhadapan dengan Yayasan; memiliki kedekatan personil dengan seluruh warga kampus; serta terbuka menerima kritik, saran, dan masukan yang membangun demi kemajuan lembaga. Kata kunci: gaya kepemimpinan, pendidikan tinggi vokasi, kemaritiman. Abstract. Vocational education is currently getting the government's attention, and various regulations and policies are issued to support the strengthening of vocational education. Of course, this must be supported from internal vocational education itself, one of which is from the leaders who manage the running of the institution. This study aims to evaluate the leadership style of maritime vocational higher education in the 21st century which is full of dynamics and very fast changes that require adaptive leader characters. In addition, to find development gaps or improvements that can be made to increase the role and function of the present and future leaders of maritime vocational higher education. This research method is a mixed method where for the first research purpose, quantitative methods are used, while for the second research purpose, narrative qualitative methods used. The results showed that leadership in maritime vocational higher education uses three leadership styles, namely charismatic (4.04), transformational (4.42), and transactional (4.17). The conclusion of this study states that the leadership of maritime vocational higher education has used a combination of the three leadership styles so that it can answer the demands of all elements in the institution. The things that still need to be improved as the leader of maritime vocational higher education are: understanding the applicable regulations properly; competent and capable of being a leader even though he is still young; able to be an example; protect the entire academic community and fight for the rights of subordinates even though they have to deal with the Foundation; having close personnel with all campus residents; and (6) openly accepting constructive criticism, suggestions, and input for the improvement of the institution.. Abstract

In the field of education, all aspects of education should align with the goals of national education. Education has a significant impact on human development, especially in the era of globalization, to develop academic skills, students' personalities, and mastery of knowledge and technology in accordance with the needs and developments of the working world. Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran (PIP) Semarang is a vocational state university in the maritime field that implements a one-year full-time internship program for bachelor's and Diploma-IV degrees. This internship program, also known as sea practice, is carried out by cadets on board ships to apply the lessons they have learned during their maritime studies. During the sea practice, the institution continuously monitors the progress of the cadets from a distance to assess their performance during the internship period. In this era of globalization and digitization, information systems are rapidly developing. The integration of information can be implemented in sea practice to prevent and address the educational and maritime testing issues that often arise at the central, regional, and cadet levels. PIP Semarang provides remote monitoring facilities through an application-based system. The observations have shown that this monitoring method can enhance competence, communication, and problem-solving skills. In further development, the application will be aligned with the digitalization-based education management.
