Abstract

This study identifies rice cultivation and postharvest processing practices implemented by a rural agricultural community and explains the stages involved in producing quality rice. Rice farming is the community’s primary livelihood, but farmers face challenges related to reliance on traditional techniques, limited process documentation, and the need to improve efficiency and rice quality. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, drawing on direct observation, interviews, and documentation involving farmers and local workers engaged in rice production. Findings show that production follows a structured sequence of harvesting, husk removal, initial milling, grain polishing, and waste management. Each stage contributes to rice quality and production continuity. The study further found that farmers combine traditional knowledge with simple mechanized practices and reuse rice husks as organic fertilizer, reflecting resource efficiency and environmental awareness. These findings offer practical insight into local agricultural practices and identify opportunities to improve processes, build farmer capacity, and strengthen sustainable agricultural management. The study contributes to a broader understanding of community-based rice production systems and supports efforts to improve productivity, product quality, and long-term agricultural sustainability. It emphasizes the value of documenting practices to facilitate knowledge transfer and continuous improvement.
